and most horses in this race cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and up...   but yeah, good point!!
The winner cost $9500.  I'd say that was the deal of the century.

Sort of.

It initially was bought for 9500$ and raced in Canada.

It was then bought by two guys for 400k. The below article is very interesting about the horse.

But still........what a make the beast with two backsing deal!!

I was just able to watch it again on DVR.

The jockey totally is to credit for the win. He just threaded the needle and got through that pack.

That horse is actually a gelding and is quite smaller than most 3yr olds in the Derby. It has shorter legs.

Doesn't look like they are going to run it in the Preakness in a few weeks unless they deem it healthy enough. Lots of horses look to be pulling out.

I like that trainer. What a cowboy.

"Maybe now someone will talk about more than my drive here. Thanks"

That guy from NBC was an asshole, glad he pretty much told him to piss up a tree.

The commentators didn't get too in-depth.  They just mentioned it was bought $9500.

Was the trainer the guy on crutches?  I saw when they were doing the walkover that someone made the drive in a van with the horse, or something like that.

Edit:  Just read the article.  Yep, it was him.

The commentators were jackasses.

Yeah, it was the guy on crutches. He broke his leg in a motorcycle accident.

This was the first time this trainer had a horse in the derby. He drove all the way from NM with the horse in a van.

pretty cool story

i wanted the old school teacher to win...  one man operation:  owner, trainer, groom, etc...

most of the derby horses won't even be running in the preakness, perhaps even the winner, but this year is lacking the big brown/barbaro type of horse.  and quite a few tracks now don't even use dirt, it's a synthetic surface that supposedly reduces injuries and drains better, but it makes it tough on the handicapper since some horses prefer one surface to the other.
