That's pretty interesting:
the
NRV588
currently produces 165 horsepower at 11,450 rpm from its liquid-cooled
twin-rotor engine
, yet weighs just 289 pounds with all fluids but fuel...

I read, which makes me an 'effing expert, that rotary engines, while powerful and super light, are quite dirty and send a lot of burning stuff out the back.
I wonder if there's a way - no one has ever thought of this I'm sure - to come up with a better fuel injection that atomizes/ oxygenates better for the rotary engine...
After burner?
Otherwise - don't look for them in California anytime soon. Flames coming out the back and all.

That's slick, DQ.
That motor sounds evil, just one long, partially contained explosion trying to get out.
It sounded like he short shifted and it still wanted to wheelie.
Should we get spidey one? Roll the tape!
Is a rotory motor a three cycle? Did Wankel die a mysterious death like Diesel?
Oooooo....
(c'mon, gotta keep the thread alive somehow)
EDIT
This just in from the news/history/thread-survival desk. Take it away, wikipedia...
Diesel's Death
In the evening of 29 September 1913, Diesel boarded the post office steamer Dresden in Antwerp on his way to a meeting of the Consolidated Diesel Manufacturing company in London. He took dinner on board the ship and then retired to his cabin at about 10 p.m., leaving word for him to be called the next morning at 6:15 a.m. He was never seen alive again. Ten days later, the crew of the Dutch boat "Coertsen" came upon the corpse of a man floating in the sea. The body was in such an advanced state of decomposition that they did not bring it aboard. Instead, the crew retrieved personal items (pill case, wallet, pocket knife, eyeglass case) from the clothing of the dead man, and returned the body to the sea. On the 13th of October these items were identified by Rudolf's son, Eugen Diesel, as belonging to his father.
No one knows for sure how or why Diesel was lost overboard. Grosser (1978)[5] presents a credible case for suicide. There are conspiracy theories that suggest that various people's business interests may have provided motives for homicide. Evidence is limited for all explanations.[6]
Storys like this intrigue me.

Can I point out the obvious? How cool it is that no parts need to start/stop/change direction like in a piston cycle? Neat-0.

Always a fan of that car. It did not, if I recall, have flames coming out of glowing red pipes.

That engine sounds awesome. Weird for a Norton though, eh?
and from my "I don't have anything more of value to contribute to this discussion" file . . . I've always thought the name Wankel sounded dirty.
