A new plan for '13:
I've been thinking that the '01 Monster I have in NY would be more fun to ride here instead of the crowded NY suburbs. I was toying with the idea of selling the '97 I have here now and maybe shipping the '01 west. I figured to pick up something better suited to commuting in the NY suburbs- a Honda, maybe (or a Suzuki s40 Boulevard mini-cruiser since I have this fascination with turning one into a cafe racer along the lines of the Ryca CS-1).
I called by my buddy Frank up in Ithaca, NY today to wish him happy birthday. He'd sold me the '97 years ago and his current rides include a VFR, an SV650 and a nicely appointed 916. Short version: He wants the '97 Monster back, so he will trade me the SV straight-up. Here's the best thing about the plan: Next spring, I will ride the '01 Duc out here and he'll ride the SV. Then I will ride the SV back to NY and he'll ride the '97 Monster. I'm thinking we'll block out 3 weeks for the whole trip so that we have time so see some of the USA and hang here a little.
There may be a twist to the story: He's been wanting to sell that 916. I think he'd be willing to let someone ride it down here along with us if there was a chance he could sell it here. I'll check that out. In the meantime, if any of you think you need a road trip in about 7 months, let me know. It would involve getting yourself to Ithaca prepared to spend a week on a not-altogether-comfortable machine.
But, hey, it would probably be worth it.

On a completely different note: Serendipitously discovered a gem of an Italian restaurant- Torino@Home (7600 Jefferson NE) while searching online. High quality Northern Italian fare, great service, relaxed atmosphere. Slightly upscale price-wise (If you order wine & dessert, it probably gets up to $30-40 a person), but worth it, especially for a special evening with a special person.
Tomorrow, on Roxy's recommendation, we're headed to Timbuctu in Rio Rancho for brunch.
The wonders of Albuquerque continue to reveal themselves.

On another completely different note. I have a 2001 900ss that I watche sitting for 2 years. After the 2 years it was on its side and over htose 4 years I had asked the owner if he wanted to sell it. He kept telling me no. Finally he called me one day and he said he would sell. I got it for 2200 and it is a salvage title with 4000 miles on it. I have it on my lift now with the front suspended from the rafters. I noticed the left fron fork seal is leaking so this weekend I will finish pulling the forks. Here is the question. Should I order race tech valves and springs or just change the seals and put it back together. I probably will not track it just the great riding up here in Northern New Mexico. I see that some guys send there stuff to Cognent but I am not a racer. Thanks

David,
PM Cloner or Duck-Stew, they do lots of repair and keep our bikes running. You can also post in the "Independent Service? The Desert Desmo Thread"

Hope this helps,

David,
Racetech valves will help dampening throughout the range and smooth out everything from a track monger to a boulevard cruiser. If you're 'in there'... They're worth the $ IMO.

If anyone here knows and has contact with Roxy, please tell her "Thanks!" for the recommendation of brunch at Timbuctu over in Mariposa. It was excellent.

Glad to hear you're settling in, JJ. Now I'm thinking I may plan my Northeast-to-Southwest journey next spring so I route through the Mountaineer state and visit you guys.
