Author Topic: "Clunk" sound from my S2R1k  (Read 3606 times)

I began noticing a "clunk" sound coming from the rear of the bike when I ride off in 1st gear..

Thought it was the chain binding or something. Checked the bike the other day ( havent ridden it since I detected th sound). The chain seems o.k.. albeit a tad dry. I check the rear sprocket and noticed theres lateral play- I can wobble it back and forth.

She's got 12k on the clock and am wondering if its the cush drive thats gone south on me . Any ideas?

She's going in for service but I just wanted an idea of what I could expect is wrong with her...

Could be the clutch too...... I noticed mine makes more noise now that I have 16 K on the clock & I also notice it when I'm not smooth.

Luckily the Arrows drown out most of the noise laughingdp

I know its not the clutch. The sound def came from th drive side.

Anyone know why the rear sprocket would have play in it?

I'm not riding her until I can get her to the shop..

i've heard of this issue coming up before, but can't recall an answer.
someone discovered lateral play when they were installing a new rear sprocket..
i believe it has something to do with a bearing facing the wrong direction? or maybe being broken?
can anyone chime in on this?

i have heard of the cushes failing, that's where i wold look.  they can come apart and actually start machining down the eccentric.  i am pretty sure my sprocket does not have any lateral play, but i will go check

edit, nope i have no lateral play on mine

... I have an extended warranty. I wonder if the cush drive issue ( if thats it) would be a warranty item?

You're thinking of the wheel spacer being in backwards.

The OEM sprockets have some freeplay, you can wobble 'em a bit.
Same for the AFAM quick-change carriers.
Sometimes they'll be tight, if the cush drives are tight in the carrier or sprocket.

Could be a clunk from either the wheel nut or sprocket nut being loose.
Or, from the cush drive nuts being loose.

Possible that the rear wheel was installed with the drive pins in the slots instead of the holes.

I had a flat tire and had the rear tire replaced a few months ago by B.Hills Ducati.......Hmmmm bang head

I have done this myself and would have bet any amount of money that I would NEVER make such a mistake.
