Dirty dry (open) clutch?

6500 miles (problem started around 5k)
open clutch cover
1 mile of dirt road to get from garage to pavement

ok,.. i was experiencing a "dragging" sensation when i pulled away from a dead stop in first. sort of like if one of my front calipers was sticking. i would also feel a strange "vibration" in the right handle bar at certain speeds.

i was able to recreate this issue for the guy at the shop, and his immediate response was that my open dry clutch was dirty, which was causing some drag, and sending the vibration up along the right side of the bike.

so, on his instruction, i pulled all the plates (keeping them in correct order), and wiped them down, blew out the basket, and wiped it down. put it all back. everything works, and the "drag" or "vibration" was gone, until today, when i thought for a bit that i was feeling it again (cant sweat to it though)

my question: for those with more experience than me with the dry clutch (this is my first), does the dirty clutch thing hold water? or should i be looking for another issue altogether?

groaning is a good way to describe it actually. and i dont think it is actually vibrating, just that the "groan" is translating along the right side of the bike......

Double check the tightness on all the bolts?They said it should be evenly tight.

Wash your bike, let the water run into the clutch. You will see all kinds of shit run out of it. Do this before you wash the rest of the bike. Start it up and let the water run in there again. Pull the bike to the right side with it still running to get all the water out...

There's a fix for that.

On the recommendation of my tech...

Get a spare beveled steel disc...the one with the dimple...take the clutch apart and clean the steel discs with a scotchbrite wheel.

As you reinstall the pack add the extra beveled disc facing in the opposite direction of the factory installed one.

It doesn't matter where as long as it's not right next to the other one.

Groan gone for about 15K

Stock clutch pack almost 30K...I think the tangs will be gone before the friction surface wears out.
