fuel cap thingamajiggers

ok.......dumb question #2, whats the deal with the thingamajiggers people posted on here having 8 screws and mine now has 5......hows that work out?

The whole assembly just sits in a smooth sided round hole.  Take off a few of those top screws and the cap and surrounding ring come off but there's a base part underneath left behind.  That base holds itself in place with 8 little allen screws that all screw out horizontally from the center and hold it in the smooth, unthreaded hole in the top of the tank.

So, if you make a new base plate you can tap in as many screws as you want from the top.  Go to the Ducati site and download the exploded diagrams for your bike.  It might make things clearer.
