Quote from: MsTek on May 16, 2009, 08:16:38 AMI want to keep my bike but maybe I should just sell her now and have NO bike like I did before.  If I can get the building management to work with me here, it will be okay.  But that isn't looking good.

This makes me sad. Post some flyer ads at some local joints or talk to some of the Half Fast Chicago bike club people and investigate co-opping with somebody on covered/secure storage space. You're a Ducati-riding grrl so there ought to be SOMEBODY willing to help out. You shouldn't have to do without your bike, and no Duc should have to live on the street under constant threat of theft.

I've been trying to find some space in my neighborhood since just before I got her... I need only six by two and have said I won't start the engine in the ally. I have enough muscle power to get her to the street.  I mean I said I'd pay $75 a month for unused space.  No takers.

I just took  her around the block twice. I don't hear the squeak on the brake right now.  I looked at the brake again and realized that unlike my KZ1000, the caliper is towards the REAR and not top/front so the lock shouldn't have hit them when it rolled back-  it hit the forks.

There is dog sh*t all over the tire. I'm going to take her for a twisty in a bit to get that "sh*t" off (literally).

Right mirror is broken (is okay.. I am waiting for my bar end slider anyway so I can install the bar end mirrors that I have)

Left front turn signal was smashed up behind the front cowl.  I pulled it out- thank god for rubber stalks... still need to test to see if it is blinking.

I'm over-reacting about selling. I LOVE her.  But I cannot move right now.  Worse comes to worse , I have tangerine bike that I need to put in storage for a year and can't enjoy. =(  My friend has a condo in lakeview with garage space for bikes at $80 a month.  I know what my bike is really worth now (especially with her color) and I know what I want to do to her. I want to keep her as an investment, even if that means I don't get to ride her for a bit (which makes me sad).

I am going to try to install the Scorpio alarm that I have sitting in a box over here sometime today.  I don't think that is going to stop what happened last night as the bike was a half block away and it was 3:30am and I was dead to the world sleeping at that point.

I just had someone from DRILL say that I can bring the bike over and put her up on his lift and take a look at her wheel/calipers.  She actually might be okay as that when I took her around the block, I felt no wobble and the brakes seem to be acting correctly and I didn't hear a squeak this time.

Shes back on the street at this moment-  its a bit of chore to get her in and out of the back gate without crushing more flowers. I will put her back behind the gate later on when I am done with errands.

I am very frustrated and this would be very easy if the building management would just let me park the bike under the deck where no one ever goes but the little kids to draw on the wall.  the doors over there have been painted over.  They are saying that its a building code violation of some sort.  I don't see it.  So they want me to pay $175 to park in the alley which brings us back to the initial problem.

I don't get it- if I had a garage (and some people in this neighborhood do), I would be all over a WOMAN (less likely to be trouble! *wink*) who was asking to rent a little bit of garage space.  An easy, easy $75 a month.  This is just my small little monster- not some huge, uber loud, full dress Harley.  Just me and my little monster. :*(

The amazing thing is that this little Ducati is going to make me more of a mechanic than my Kawasakis ever did.

I love this bike that hard that I'm going to do what I can to keep her in decent condition and not get stolen.

Ever think about one of those screaming Xena disc locks? I accidentally set off a display model just by touching it in a bike parts/accessory store a few years ago... holy s#@t, it was loud as hell!! In a good way. [thumbsup] I also am a huge fan of the OnGuard Rottweiler locking cables. They come in several lengths in either 25mm or 30mm diameters. Tough as s#@t.

My storage unit was broken into recently and I keep several of my bikes there. The thieves got so excited about the bikes they left, went down the street and stole a large U-haul moving van to transport my stolen bikes. They drove it right through the fence of my storage facility and parked it in front of my unit. That's about the time they realized that every one of my bikes had Rottweiler locking cables through both wheels and they were all locked together back wheel to front wheel also with a Rottweiler. You can't just take one and none of the wheels turn on any of them! Try dragging several bikes all locked together with locked up wheels out of a storage unit and up a ramp into a van! They only moved one bike about 2 inches and gave up!! They even left the van sitting there and took nothing else from the unit!! I won that round!!! [clap] [thumbsup] [drink] ... and yes, they are now all moved to a different unit.

I could NEVER park my bikes on the street.  Scratch that.  I could NEVER sleep while my bikes were parked on the street.  I don't know how you do it, but best of luck!!

Perhaps consider moving.   :)
+1 x a google

I would NEVER EVEN CONSIDER buying a Duc (or any other motorcycle for that matter) and leaving it on the street..

and then you mentioned you live in Chicago?!  Where's the WTF thread?!

No offense but seriously..did you get dropped on your head at some point in your life?

You people are wayyy too obsessive. I used to park mine in downtown Boston. No cover, no chain, no disc lock, key in it.

It's just a bike-not worth the constant worry.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

try parking your bike in the projects and see how many people will tell you they are going to steal it the second you stop looking. then try living there with a bike.

Nice, very nice.  Personal insults get you EVERYWHERE and prove your point and your intelligence level. Bravo!

Some of us chose to live a little, the rest of us choose to live in those people's shadows with "I wish I had.. I wish I could."

There is no "I wish" in my life, only "I will" and "I have".

There is nothing wrong with Chicago.  There is something wrong with my neighborhood.  Sorry, not only the rich ass snobs get to have Ducatis.

I don't think it's Chicago that sucks.  It's the condo living thing.  They are generally such assholes as I've discovered from experience.

Let's see...So far I've been fined for having a bicycle on the balcony.......a party that was too loud.......

I say keep the Duc and put a "For Sale" sign on the condo.   [thumbsup]

There's a guy who parks next to me at school on an R6. He leaves the key in the ignition and his helmet on his handlebar. I've been tempted to flick the key to the ON position but would never do that to another  [moto]. I guess he's not worried about theft.

I garage mine most nights but have left it parked outside my condo window a couple times. One night I moved it to the garage after everyone went to bed and my wife thought it had been stolen. I told her that's what the insurance is for.

MsTek

Rent.  don't own a condo.

We'll see what management says. Where it's parked right now is a pregnant dog and half for me to get in an out but its not int he way, behind a gate, under a deck with a cover on it.

Considering my neighbors like to leave their trash out on their back deck and I try to make mine nice, play my rent on time, etc.. I don't know why they won't work with me on this:

<-- thats  how I keep my deck.  Trust me-  I have the nicest one back there.  Between me and Duc, we bring this place class.

I just don't take kindly to people who act like asses for the sake of being asses.  There is enough ass in real life to have to continue it on.

But hey... respect is hard to come by these days.  Better to just act like a dick and hope people know your joking than just plain be a decent human off the bat.
