MotoGP '08 Video Racing
«

I've never been a gamer but recently got my kid a Wii. Couldn't resist getting the MotoGP game.
So, I'm 10 races into my rookie season on a KTM 125, leading the championship by 24 points and I see the US round coming up on the calendar. I'm getting excited to run Laguna but I quickly notice they have Indy but no Laguna Seca. Anyone into this and know why no Laguna Seca round in the game?
Is Laguna Seca that prestigous that they won't give up the rights to be used on a video game?

Not at all. It's because MotoGP doesn't run the support classes at Laguna. Instead, they run an AMA round in conjunction with MotoGP. I think the game is trying to mimic reality...but I've been frustrated that you can't run the two strokes at laguna. I've always wanted to see how many people Hector Barbera would take out in the Corkscrew

That makes sense. I did not think about that. I'll have to wait to get the call to the big leagues to get a crack at Laguna!
I am making a name for myself in the 125 series as a late breaking fool!!! I have taken out the entire grid on a few occasions braking late in hairpins. If I'm going down so is everyone else.

That's pretty much how you have to play that game...

I'm on the fully sissy mode.(Arcade). Auto shift is the key and I'm running 125s. I mess with suspesnion and gearing a little bit depending on the track. I've won a bunch of races. I actually won a race and hit the wrong button and had to run it again and got a 3rd the second time so I'm 9 points down IMHO.
I've run a few 800 races as another rider and run manual shifting and I'm usually DFL. It is a lot different running the small bikes as apposed to the bigger ones even in Arcade mode.
I will say that I can see the value of running these games for a guy like Spies as you have a vague feel for what's going on rather then coming in completely cold.

I picked this up a few days ago. Played my first season on medium difficulty, arcade handling, manual shift. Just finished the last race today. I was 11pts adrift of first place going into Valencia. I took first and Corsi ( championship leader ) got passed and dropped to 4th on the last corner. I took the championship by 1 point. It was pretty insane.
Sweet game. I have enough points to join the Gresini GP team, but gonna stick out season two in 250cc. Gotta get roughed up by those boys first.
Late breaking and getting on the throttle early is definately the key.
Gonna see if I can bring the Scot Honda 250cc team a championship.

Had my first wet race. It was um, difficult to say the least. The rain smacking on the screen and the rear end stepping out all the time is interesting. Looks like I'll be a few seasons in 250cc. Simoncelli/Bautista/Kallio are ridiculously fast. Need to upgrade the bike over a season before I can compete on a race to race basis I think. 250's are a lot more competitive than my first season on 125's for sure.

This game ROCKS! I am loving learning the tracks this way. I'm sure most of these tracks I'll never get to see in real life let alone run on( hmmm...
new goals in life [moto])
I've got the Wii version. Can I just say, in order to lean ...you lean. That is fekking cool. Twist throttle to go etc.
The breaks kind of suck with the on-off switches. I've thrown my fare share of D16's down the track in a ball.
How are the controls on the other stations?
Laguna Secca I've been trying in the GP class under "quick races." A track I live near enough to actually go ride - haven't yet.
That track is a biatch IMHO.
Anyone notice your bad habits in real life are the same in the game?
Seems like a succession of semi-straights with erratic hard turns at the end of each. Few sweeping twisties with easy rythms.
And then the corkscrew? The all mighty separator of men and boys.
This track is taking me twice as long to get the hang of than all the others I've tried. Can't wait to get to Monterey again

(Race Spoiler
)
Ok I just wiped up the course at Motegi. 2:00.5 min was my best time on the 125. Now I'm 107 points into the lead.
Anyone know how to switch teams and trade up etc?
I can't figure that out. Do you have to start a new character?
I've got 354 points now.
I kind of wish I could switch to more difficult. I go from pole to win pretty much every race. (Using elbows and knees
)
Speaking of elbows and knees, some MoFo took me out during qualifying. Speared me sideways. 3 turns earlier I was nudging him off the track. When he got he either waved of gave the finger.
I'm not making this up. I swear, there was a hand in the air when he got by.

Based upon career points, you can then change teams at the end of each season. I did one 125 season, two 250, and now I'm on my second GP season. I wish I could turn up the difficulty as well.. I'm on medium atm and am wiping the grid. However I skip qualifying every race to make it interesting.

You all answered my question. There isn't a way to change the settings for a rider once you create them.
I won the championship in 125 on Easy/ATM and it was a little too easy. I one pole in every race and won 8-9 races. My worst finish was a 5th due to 5-6 crashes.
I set up a new racer in the 250 series with difficult and manual tranny settings and it is ridiculously hard to keep everything going. I came in last at Qatar like 45 seconds off the lead.
Guess I'll try something in the middle and run another season in the 125 series.

Work up to it slowly, try easy handling with manual gear shifts. It's possible to spin up the tire and start squaring off the corners.

+1
I haven't gone to expert, but have gotten much better at advanced riding. Its pretty cool how you can really step out the rear around some corners. Makes me feel like Hayden on the Repsol.

I started messing around with Stoner's GP8 Bike doing time trials.
I set it to expert manual shifting.
WOE. It's a different thing all together. Way more responsive, way more control. I couldn't believe how fast I picked up the shifting.
It becomes second nature pretty fast.
When I get through my first 125 season I'm going to manual everything.
