Dunno if this is well known mod among the 'tard crowd, but I loved it.  Home-made bar sliders (skateboard wheels) so you don't screw up the $$$ handguards on your Hyper.    waytogo

They make great sliders for the axels as well. I had em on my last bike, a DRZ SM.

What did you use to mount them on (through) the rear axel?  I have an S2R with a SSS.

Threaded rod from the Home Depot.

Here's an SMJ forum thread on it. http://www.supermotojunkie.com/showthread.php?p=799875

There's been some talk since this idea first came around though that skateboard wheels aren't exactly the best idea to use as sliders.

http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=765231

... and a quote from the thread noted above ...

Quote
Skateboard wheels are made to grip, not slip. I've used my sliders before & my bike slid about 30ft. If I had skateboard wheels, then it could have flipped for 30ft.

... but I don't have the SM anymore and no plans on the skateboard sliders this time around on the monster. The wheels were cheap, easy and looked cool, but I'll go with Delrin on the Ducati.

From Motovation's site regarding slider materials:

Quote
Frame Slider Material
Motovation Accessories uses a proprietary High Molecular Density (HMD) formulation of nylon. This nylon is impregnated during the extrusion process with UV inhibitors to resist destabilization of the molecular matrix and discoloration during prolonged UV exposure. This formulation is also molybdenum disulfide infused to give it the same lubricating properties as Delrin. This formulation is 75% more resistant to abrasion than Delrin and exhibits a reduced propensity to "chunk off" or "break off" during extended abrasive events and it's 'slickness' reduces it 'grabby-ness' during slides that may cause your bike to tumble and cause more damage.

What about Delrin or ABS?
Many frame slider manufacturers use them because it much softer, much cheaper and easier to machine, i.e. the material flakes off readily in a lathe and is much easier on the tools. The reason why Delrin is easier to work with therefore makes it a much less suitable choice than our selection for frame slider material. Notice in the pictures on the left that our material shows stringy edges at the point of abrasion. Delrin does not do this. It will chunk and break off on impact much more readily. Furthermore, Delrin is not UV stabilized and will discolor or turn grey in sunlight which will further downgrade it's structural strength. If you see a set of sliders that have been on a bike for a while and they are greying, they are most likely made of Delrin.  When it is in that condition they will already have been destabilized by UV and will most likely crack when subjected to impact forces.

Bar ends should be fine, but I wouldn't use it anywhere else...

did someone tag the fairing in the OP photo? matches the ghettoness of the wheelz. cheeky

coworker did that for his gixxer... axle sliders, too

:edit: to get around the 'grippy' issue, he made it to fit the bearings, too... the thought was that the wheels will roll along w/the bike when it's sliding down the road

Skateboard wheels should work ok. Just get the highest durometer (hardest) that you can find. I've done plenty of sliding of skateboards in my time and I weigh 150 lbs. Your bike weighs a bit more Wink

...sans some inventive mounting

Sorry, it's not a pic of my bike (just some guy we met before our ride last weekend).  That said, if I had a Hyper, I guaran-f'n-tee that I'd put it on the ground within the first coupla days.  They're that much fun.
