When I get my mid-pipe, its going to be a must. One ?. Does the heat affect the coating, and do they seem to get hotter/cooler?

The whole original purpose of ceramic coating is heat control.  I don't know for sure, but I think it was more than likely developed for the aircraft industry.  Ceramics are really crappy conductors of heat (a la Space Shuttle tiles) so the heat of the exhaust is contained more effectively inside the pipe.  According to some advertising about it, some people say ceramic coating on car headers, inside and out, makes them last a lot longer because the metal is more protected from the effects of continuous heating/cooling cycles.

OTOH, is it going to make your exhaust cool to the touch?  No.

But with that thinking, will it make the engine run hotter? Doesn't the exhaust help to draw the heat away from the engine? And if the exhaust is now coated and thermally protected, where does the heat go? Ideally, out the tail pipe? Not really understanding whether the heat of the pipe is caused by the engine which it is attached to or from the hot air flowing through the inside.

Are they starting to discolor near the horizontal cylinder or is it just a trick of the lighting?

It’s def. the picture (coating is the same color throughout the system).
I took that pic right before the skys opened up so the lighting was kinda strange.
So far the ceramic coating is holding up great, with no discoloration/chips/etc…
wow! crazy awsome bike!
Thanks for the kind words.
Still have allot to do/remove/change/etc...

Cool, +1 on the great bike.  I think I just decided to ditch both my front fender and hugger.  Rain's enough here to never worry about it.

But think about this, keeping the heat in the pipe keeps it from radiating to the outside of your engine...

Food for thought:
Granted I have a smaller exhaust than most (RR underbody) but that said, it was cheaper to ship my pipe to Performance Coatings in Auburn, WA. including the shipping, and have them do it than having it coated locally, or shipping it to JetHot in PHX.

Yes - Good Hues in Derry NH, right across the Street from Seacoast Ducati.

I can't stay enough good things about them, very reasonably priced and quick turnaround time.  waytogo
