Powdercoating is just that (powder) that goes on dry and then is baked..
Ceramic Coating is a liquid that coats the part (usually exhaust) inside and out and then is cured in a oven (similar to Powdercoating)..
From everything I hear Ceramic coating is much more of a mess...

I ask becasue usually glossy finish's will dull down with heat cycles..

No miles yet, but I've used several different ceramic coaters in the last 15 years- None of them came out as glossy as this. This is thicker and actually looks like a ceramic coating whereas the others looked more like a powder paint. I'll shoot some pictures after I ride on it for a couple weeks. I'm willing to take some time off of work to conduct this test...  -M |

A little more eye candy...$150 @ East Coast Powder Coating...looking forward to seeing your finished exhaust  i can't believe you sprung for those BSTs. if you did a "taste test", so to speak, would you be able to tell the difference? |

Pic of my ceramic coated BoomTubes ---> i was thinking it was too black when i first saw your before/after pics. but nah, just fricken perfect! the boom tubes look so fantastic too. i am doing other things this summer (rizoma bling) but may swap out the termi set up i have for those (it's a big deal since i put $3g into what i have and it runs like butter). |

QD has come up with a ceramic coating that is thicker and more glossy than what we have seen in the past. They did a 1098 full system for our 10th anniversary. The finish is basically what they use on cookware. We will be offering this with all QD systems soon.

I like that glossy color that moto posted a lot. Here is the "titanium" color from Performance Coatings (the part underneath the engine; I've since coated the rest of the exhaust, but no updated pictures):  ...and the "satin fresh" color from Performance Coatings:  Both colors are matte, but the coatings do seem to hold heat pretty well. Unfortunately, they aren't any easier to clean than bare metal, and the coating is very thin, so you can't scrub them. I've got a bunch of baked-on bug juice on the SV pipes, because there is a cricket/grasshopper infestation out here this summer. |

I had mine done in metallic silver, which I've not seen many people do. It does cut the heat a bit. When I change the oil, I only say "Ouch" instead of the expletive dictionary.  |
