Amazing work there. Can't wait to see some more detailed pics of that exhaust. I'm just curious with all the hours of work put into her. With the cutting, grinding, engine work and such. Why on earth would you keep the factory mirrors!?

Gotta agree. Those are the same mirrors as the 696/1100. First thing I got rid of on my 696. Ruins the lines of the bike.
More pic's, please!

There will be a lot more detailed information after the Cycle World piece hits.
I kept the mirrors because they work! For the first time since 1994 and my first Duc, Stock Duc Mirrors that WORK! Yee HaW!!!
Enuf was done to the engine to make it stupid... A 1198 with a system and ecu makes 172-4 rwhp, this bike is pretty close to that.
Lots was done to the swinger - Braced, welded, smoothed, etc.
All rearsets bolt on, so we use production pieces. Vortex sponsors us, and has for a long time, so we fit them. They are some of the best pieces on the market, even tho they arent eurotrash.
The Exhaust is also from long time shop sponsor, Leo Vince. We use thier muffler, and they send me a box of tubing. I do the rest.
Not being defensive, at all. We are in a unique position in the industry of being able to beuild the fastest, best performing customs out there. That also means that I have to keep some stuff under wraps for the magazines. The guys that build thier own frames, etc make cool stuff, bt they simply dont work as well as what we do, and one of our tennants is that we only IMPROVE the bikes.. .Form follows Function

They do work but tossed mine the day i picked up my SF. Suggestion; Try the Rizoma Prototype Naked, coverage is good, plenty of adjustments, blue tinted mirrors and they look a lot better than stock. I think it will flow better on your modded SF.

-I hate the rockstar can. It's just stupid.
+1
It's the only item that ruins it for me. Reminds me of the time my plastic coolant puke tank cracked at the dragstrip and I had to use a Mountain Dew bottle out of the garbage to stay in the running.
The car got a spiffy spun aluminum tank with trick bracket immediately afterward, and this bike deserves something similar.

Looks pretty neat. Too bad I'll never get close enough to it to see the little details.
The one detail I hate.....rockstar can. OK, enough people have bagged on it. But a autozone worm clamp to secure it
More details about the swingarm/pics would be awesome. You guys must have busted your ass, 400 hours in 21 days is pretty crazy...

What were the engine mods? And except for that does the bike perform better than the stock bike? The frame is already hell for strong and capable of over 175 HP without cutting it apart and re-welding it back together. If form follows function, how does it perform better than the factory with DP kit mods.
To a point I could care less what a bike looks like and the S models suspension may be worth all the other mod you guys did. I'd love to know if it's really that much better than stock with DP mods. The factory guys do a pretty good job.
How is what you did to the swinging arm better than stock?
I look forward to seeing the article in the bike mag.

The Rockstar can is a signature of ours. We used it on our 218rwhp Freddie bike, and every bike since. Trust me, we drank an ASSLOAD of rockstar to build this bike. Our supplier was out of our signature Titanium hose clamp to mount it. It will have one on it before the magazine shoot.
LA - The stock frame has never seen 175hp. the stock bike is no where near that in the real world. The stock welds are below what i consider acceptable, so they were replaced. The bike feels like its hinged in the middle so we fixed that in the frame.
Whats inside the swingarm is a bit of a secret. thanks.
The DP kit? you are kidding, right? We shaved more than 7lbs off the crank and flywheel, not to mention the simple porting and pistons, all you need, and then some. The biggets gains were found in the cam timing and in the intake mods, like most always.
I dont quite understand your comment about the smodel suspension being worth? this is an S model, but the S model suspension, while ohlins, is far from superbike spec. The bodies and pistons were changed, and a mid valve was added. Now the suspension is pretty amazing. Im happy.
Dont get me wrong, the stock bike really is pretty good, this is just my version of what they could do without having to mass produce the thing, and now having to worry about some wobbler getting on it and killing themselves.
As far as the subjective statement, Yeah, its my opinion, and Freddie Spencer's, so I feel safe in quoting it.
Asado, the mirrors look pretty cool... are they as wide as the Stockers? My shoulders are a bit wider than most, and tend to block out most everything.. Do you know anyone at Rizoma? PM me with that, and Id love to give them some exposure if the stuff is good.
Taft - This actually wasnt that bad of a build.. A bit stressed, but the Transformers build was all hands in and more than 1600 hours in 21 days... I brought cots to the shop and got a hotel room down the street so the guys could shower.
I dont think Im going to leave the stock ECU on it, I rode up with the TC off... WAY more fun that way, but killed a Pirelli in 800 miles... its DONE

Well I think that some people are purists in that every part has to be ducati performance or something "blingy". The Rockstar can set's off the job and you have the cleanest SF i've seen to date. Great job! I do think that rizoma mirrors would complete the bike though. Paint looks awesome. Probably a hell of a lot easier to keep clean than a gloss red.

Saw a SF parked on the island with the Rizoma mirrors.. thought they looked great.. More angular like the bike itself..

We shaved more than 7lbs off the crank and flywheel, not to mention the simple porting and pistons, all you need, and then some. The biggest gains were found in the cam timing and in the intake mods, like most always.
That's what I'm talking about, mods that actually adds to the performance of the bike. Don't get me wrong, I like an attractive bike, but for me personally, taking weight off period and especially unsprung mass and engine rotating and reciprocating mass is where is at. Looks are FAR less important to me than mods that actually add performance and function. Good on ya for what you've done there.
ohlins, is far from superbike spec. The bodies and pistons were changed, and a mid valve was added. Now the suspension is pretty amazing. Im happy.
I'm with you on a well tuned chassis adding more to overall performance than most other mods - to include engine mods. I like my Ohlins a lot, but don't those "superbike Ohlins" forks cost about 11ty billion bucks? Like over $15K? Brad Pitt could afford em, but surly not most peeps I know.
What I meant about the frame is that I thought the SF frame is the same as the 1098/1198 frame. A fully DP termi kitted otherwise stock 1198 comes with about 155 HP at the wheel. Most 4v Ducatis dyno at about .9 X claimed crank HP. The kit adds about 12-13 HP (.08%), so 165 hp at the wheel. I'd bet my otherwise worthless ass that the frame engineers made the stock frame capable of at least 25% greater HP than can be had with their stock fully kitted blue printed motor- at least. A stock R model puts out something like 165 at the wheel with street legal intake and exhaust and doesn't the R model use the same frame?
Once again, good on ya for what you did frame wise. That was a lot of work - glad you got what you were looking for.
Hell of a bike and somewhat of a sleeper - which I like.
