What would be a strong bid for this bike?

I would be pretty cautious with that bike.
First, the bike is mis-labeled as a supersport, it is a Superbike. Someone who put that much money and effort into it would not readily make that mistake.
Second, those aren't OEM plastics. they are either bought that way from hong kong, or are a sticker kit.
third, and most important, That isn't an OEM key. Either he lost all three keys
or it's a hot bike.

Seems to be a business selling it, not a private seller. If you're really interested, give them a call.
But yeah... there's some define red flags. Though I don't think the SBKs had immobilizers...

one more thing to note is that it has the dreaded 11,500 "I dont want to do the service" miles

OK guys I know the bike well.
First off some of you should know that Ducati didn't make a "996 fila" I'm pretty surprised that the Dealer is misrepresenting the bike that way...
they should at least have some description explaining what you're bidding on but they don't, to me that's a little unethical.
It is not an S but has an Ohlins rear shock
This bike was traded in to Southern Colorado Ducati/BMW by a good friend of mine on a Hyper.
The dealership is now owned by a Harley dealership and other than the service guys they have removed anybody that has any real experience or knowledge of Ducati and BMW.
That may be why they didn't describe it correctly. I know they paid WAAAY too much for the bike and are hurting on it.
The bike was purchased by my friend from a salvage auction with some crash damage, the body kit is Ebay Chinese stuff. I don't know if it has a Salvage title or not.
I know that when the dealer took the bike in they did some service to it but I'm not sure how extensive.
The bike is rough, I'm shocked at how good the pics look... makes me want to stay clear of buying ANY bike on ebay!

I was going to say the same thing. Fila started sponsoring Ducati when they were running the 999 (friend of mine owns a 999R Fila that I've been lucky enough to ride). Ducati doesn't show the Fila 996 on their site for MY2001 either:
http://www.ducati.com/my2001/superbike.jhtml
.
It's just sketchy all around. On top of that the personal report from flynbulldog, this thing should be taken down as a scam.

Its not a scam,
, jeesh...
It's a legitimate bike for sale from a legitimate dealer.
The bike is modded to look like a fila, people do stuff like that all the time
ask questions and bid wisely, I'm sure it would make a decent bike for someone, lets not start burning witches here...

I know, my 996 had those exact same skins. The sketchiness that people speak of is the misrepresentation of the bike and overall misleading ad.

OK sketchy? - yes, misleading?- somewhat , but
"a scam"
is going a little too far.
To me a scam would be advertising something that doesn't exist with the intent to take the buyers money and never deliver
This is clearly only a case of a bike with no information about it...

I agree, they have posted what they know, and pictures from every angle. I recentall ybought a M900 and the tires were advertised as only "300 miles" they do only have 300 miles however they were put on in 1998! Time for pilot powers!!!
