...after the wet T-shirt comp (I had my priorities right  waytogo )
We won all but 1 class we entered, I walked away with a trophy, but decided I had had enough, it was no fun anymore.

You won a trophy in the wet t-shirt comp? Well done!

I used to be involved on all levels of the Industry, judging, installing, used to be the Senior Moderator on the Rockford Fosgate forum (I still think I'm listed a the main Mod) I used to do dome mod work on some other forums.
I also LORV the RF gear, not enough to get a tat' (dont like tats) but its a real CA company that has continued to make reputable products.

Quote
I used to set up and run shows, Sound offs, set up and tune customer cars and then in my spare time setup, design and install my own systems (As in: Late night/Early mornings) but in the end I just burnt out, to much time in the industry, working 7 days and most nights for no extra money.
The worst I did was for setting up for a show on sat/Sun, Thursday night I had no system in the car, worked most of Thursday night, slept for 3 hours at work, went home and had a shower, came back and tweaked and tuned customer cars all day and then worked all night friday night to complete a system by about 4am the Saturday morning, tweaked and tuned until about 8 when all the customers turned up, drove the 3 hours to the show, spent all day sorting out customer cars and helping them. finally got to sleep at about about 11:30pm after the wet T-shirt comp (I had my priorities right  waytogo )
Wow, it must be a CA thing at our level, you could have lifted that from the diaries of many sucessfull installers/organisers. Thanks mang, it was guys like you that kept it going while i was out doing other things.  Grin

I got out the industry for about 3 years, went back in again when a job presented itself, but again the hours started racking up and it was time to walk away again, but while I was there I designed and built this little number: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/423680
Nice echo, fan of that 3-way front end. Hard to get with in such a small car, but you mention in that link how you worked, obvioulsy PLD and distance to Kickpanel was critical. 1 seater or 2, for SQ? waytogo

So this time I am just going in to do a job, no shows, no demo car, none of that crap, just walk in, do my job and walk out again.
Sorry to rant, but the Car audio industry has always held such mixed feelings for me.  Cheesy
No need to apologise mate! Totally understand. Car Audio had peaked and now its also a mixed time for me aswell. So I totally respect that now you just want to earn your keep. I left because I never wanted to get that deep, hence go out early.
The few customers that call me now are ussually for upgrades, removal of gear, re-fits into different cars, or just basic stuff for friends. Not tied to any shop any way, anymore (or have been since '02). Well done CairnsDuc, thanks for sharing your story with us waytogo . - Chris

Well done CD with the brakes and the job  waytogo

It's an upgrade kit from Ducati, it's basically just converts the S2R 800 into a S2R 1000 Braking system.

Was there any change to the master cylinder? If you have kept the original master cylinder you will get more 'feel' on the lever ... don't know if this means spongy but the smaller master pushing into 4 pistons instead of 2 will require more lever movement.

EDIT: snipped stuff because my brain doesn't work anymore

Worst excuse ever for a serious brake upgrade ... 'I got the gold calipers to match my chain'  laughingdp Says he who chose silver calipers because he didn't want gold

The Kit includes everything needed for the Job, New Master, lines, bolt's, the lot.

The main reason for the upgrade was the Safety factor, I go and have my fun on the Gillies range, and I could reach the limits of the black brakes very quickly, even with new Ferodo XR pads and replacing the fluid, I tried to extract as much as I could from the OEM setup, and by the time I had finished with them they were pretty decent, but the Gillies range is very tough on Brakes. Now with the Goldlines, I am not at the limits of the brakes all the time.

So now I can fiddle with setup of these brakes, I will be replacing the OEM pads, they are crap, very poor initial bite, and very wooden when they get hot.

What kind of upgrades do you have in mind?

if you haven't already, you might want to bleed the master cylinder, did it come with a bleed nipple where the banjo bolt is? if not get a rag, and wrap it around the m/cyl and using a ring spanner crack it open as someone squeezes the lever, they often get a pocket of air that leads to a spongy feel and it won't move without bleeding.
You might want to rethink stainless rotor bolts as well, they don't have anywhere near the tensile strength as regular steel bolts and the cad plate on the std bolts will stop corrosion. Not forever, being in cairns i guess, but better than shearing bolts. Call me paranoid but they're your brakes, your choice for sure, but know what you're doing, not everything is a move forward.

p.s, nice brakes!

Visa Actually  laughingdp

I always like my brakes to have a particular feel, These at the moment don't have it, the initial bite is very average and it requires to much pressure to get the brakes to really grab and brake hard, I have ridden a couple of S2R 1000's and they are the same, my original brakes were also the same, so I intend to change the front brake pads to the XR (Sintered) pads from Ferodo or the Platinum, I'm not concerned with pad or disc life, I would rather wear out disc's or Pads a bit prematurely than not have enough braking power.

Don't get me wrong, the brakes are an immense improvement over the OEM 2 piston setup, this is more about setting it up to get the feel and performance I prefer.

Loony888, I have heard similar about Stainless vs the Steel bolts, If I was going to do it, I would probably go the whole hog and get the pure over the top, unadulterated utter wank that is Titanium  Evil, Corrosion up here is really bad, I have replaced an immense amount of fasteners on the bike due to corrosion already, Most Stainless, some Titanium.

And I have bled the system a few times, but allowing it's a new install I have spoken to a few people in the know and they have said it will still need a couple more. every time I bleed it, the sponginess is less and less.

That's why I haven't ordered new pads yet, I intend to bleed the system a couple of more times, I'll let the system bed in and settle down, but I have ridden a couple of S2R 1000's that have the exact same setup, and they feel very similar with the OEM pads, I just don't like the feel of the OEM pads, I prefer the strong initial bite that Sintered pads offer, I have also ridden a MultiStrada and a GT1000, all with similar (Note: similar, not the same) brake setups and they also have this same initial feel.

The OEM black Brembo 2 piston setup had the same feel when I first bought the bike, very vague on first application and a very wooden feeling overall, I changed to the Sintered pads, much better initial bite and superb feeling.

The only brakes I truly loved from Factory were the Radial setup on the S4R I had as a daily rider when I worked for the local Ducati Dealer, Which had a set of Ferodo Sintered pads fitted in it. (The bike had 8000ks' on it and had been trashed from day one)

I think that is half the problem, I was spoilt when I got to ride so many superb bikes, In the short time I was at the dealer I rode it all, Hypers, 1098/s/r, S4R, 696, 1100 Monster, Etc
So I got to try some amazing machinery and there amazing braking systems that they were equipped with.

Also, please don't think I am complaining about the Brakes, I love the upgrade and the difference is immense, I just am just going through the final little tweaks to get the absolute best out of the setup, overall I feel it was money well spent  waytogo

I too was truely impressed when Brad changed the stock pads on the 4 pots to Ferodo's.

Plan to do the same once I get back in the saddle and start pushing it a little....

of course great brakes do mean great suspension....no point having great initial bite...but soggy front end...it'll just dive!
