Damn.

I was expecting an actual bike.

Sorry I did too..  [laugh]  that is why I had to post it..

They gotta do something right?  I sat on the 1100 Multi this weekend and the engine looks pretty sweet.  I wouldn't kick a 1098 Monster out of bed if you get my drift.

You should ride it. [evil]

I hate being so ignorant but here goes.  The 1100cc engine is not the 1098 engine right?

Duck-Stew

The 1100cc engine is actually a 1078cc air-cooled 2V engine which is basically a DS1000 engine w/larger diameter pistons in it.

If Ducati does put the 1098 into a Monster chassis, and as Ducatis' go...it should mean that the new generation SBK's (think the one after the 1098) should be a V4 engine based on the 'Cedici.  That's my guess anyways.

Damn, Hank...can't see your pic from work.

Anyway, I think the white one pictured in the original link looks pretty, and the red one doesn't look bad. Heck, the black one would look okay if the frame was black, too. [thumbsup]

The radiator treatment looks light-years better than the current S4RS (which IMO has about the ugliest radiator ever hung on a motorcycle). :P

I've read complaints since the first pics of the 696 came out about how Ducati should never have put those cast rear pieces on it, but IMO all things evolve. The stressed-member frame is still trademark Ducati trellis, and the complete package in the pictures in the link looks pretty sweet, IMO. The deep-sump 4v motor integrates quite nicely in with the look of the new tank, and the overall lines of the package look good in profile. I'm thinking twin cans, one on each side, would complete the picture (I've always liked double-sided high mufflers).

My two cents, thanks.

I had heard the 1098 based bikes would be "Non Monsters"

That subframe is a step in the wrong direction.
i can understand why they would design the frame in two separate pieces, look at the Hypermoto:

keep the trellis swingarm too while your at it!

Maybe the round headlight too--and that tank, I mean air vents?!

Anyway, no sir, I don't like it!

My local dealer got the 696 in last week and immediately put the Termis on it.  I gotta say, it looks better in person than in pics.  Seems like everyone said that about the 999 too.  Anyway, I think it's inevitable that they'll go down this path on future Monsters, whether they do it in one big bang or gradually by slowly phasing out the older models.  And of course it's always been their tradition to eventually slam the sbk motor into a Monster so we're sure to see a 1098 engined Monster.  And in answer to the earlier post, no, the 1100 DS motor in the Multi isn't the sbk 1098 motor.  The 1100 motor is the air-cooled 2v motor while the 1098 is the liquid-cooled 4v sbk motor.  And yes, the Multi is a fantastic bike.  A great do-it-all sporting beast that can carry stuff and handle two-up days with ease.  One bike is never enough, but if it had to be just one the Multi would get the nod.
If it's got two wheels and a motor, I like it!

hmmmm...interesting but...do you really want all that power in a naked frame?
IMHO, i'd prefer to tweak my S4 up to ~130hp which is plenty for me and save enough money for a used 1098  ;D
