So last Saturday night I was coming home from work around 11:30 pm.  I was in the far left lane, and a guy in the middle lane, cuts me off and brakes.   Apparently he worked at a bar we were passing, and decided the best way to get into the parking lot would be to abruptly change lanes and brake fairly hard.  I got on my brakes and the rear skidded out from under me.  I let go, and corrected, but I was right on him and was faced with hitting him or going down.  I got on the brakes again and went down.  I was doing about 40 mph.  I don't really remember thinking anything except trying to not hit him, and then the realization I was going down.  "Crap this is gonna hurt".    I went down on my left side, sliding into the turn lane.  I was ripped out over the top of the bike and the last thing I remember seeing is my gauges and then my hand spread wide in front of my face.   The bike turned around and skid half way back into in the left hand lane.  I rolled into on coming traffic.  I popped up on my feet and tried to run over to my bike, still running and spilling fuel.   I couldn't run.  But I limped over and shut her off.    The guy came back and he told the cops what happened and how it was his fault.  He seemed like a nice guy, and he felt pretty bad.  Said he just didn't see or hear me.   He lifted my bike and moved into a nearby parking lot after the cops were done.  Of coarse I filled it up right before work, it dumped most of the fuel.

SO... I'm ok (considering).  I tweaked my hip and knee pretty hard.  They took me to the hospital and did Xrays.  Said they can't tell yet if I tore ligaments in my  knee, but nothing is broken.  Looks like I'm missing at least two weeks of work assuming I don't need knee surgery.    I'm walking on crutches and spending a lot of time with my knee elevated, watching TV, alternating hot and cold.  Pain killers, Anti inflammatory and muscle relaxers.  My rent was do on the 1st. and I have 6 dollars left after medicine and food.  but one thing at a time, It really could have been bad.  I knew when it was happening I would be fine.  That's happened a couple time, kinda like I knew something was gonna suck but God had my back.  and the guy had insurance and the officer spelled out the accident very clearly in the report.

So the bike is leaking fuel and coolant.  My pretty and expensive Rimoza Mirrors aren't so pretty.  And my buddy who limped her home said the shifter is stuck and when you apply the breaks the front end wobbles (ominous Angry).

Yep... that's a brand new custom hole for coolant to flow directly out of the bike.

I think the bulb made it!!

There's a bunch of other stuff... but really I thought it held up pretty well (assuming the forks aren't tweaked).

Now the important stuff:
I'm going to need new gear.  I would appreciate suggestions, specially helmets.  I'm pretty happy with the rest of it, but my helmet isn't made anymore and I haven't found one I like as much.

I think that's just the photo.  It's an XL helmet.   I do have wide hands.  I'm about 6'3'' 250 so that is to be expected.

Anyone have an opinion on the Nexx X30 Viper helmet?

Snell rated Helmets?

Really sorry to hear, man.  Hope you get better.

I say you did good - you walked (limped) away and weren't carried.  Like the pilots say, that's a good landing.

BTW, I'd encourage you to get your insurance to pony up for a CAT scan on that knee and hip and then get scanned.  Only a CAT scan will definitely determine soft-tissue damage, which sounds likely.  I think the ins. companies are relectant to offer it up initially because of the expense, but it is most definitely worth it.  I waited a year after a (non-moto) spill and found the reason for my constant knee pain.  It is now much better after the surgery.  Don't wait.

good luck, chief.

did you ever take MSF? I've had this situation happen to me once every few weeks and the MSF class kicks in. You should take some time out when you get better and practice because you idiots like that driver are everywhere.

Shit! You make three Duc accidents last weekend! Mine, Qwack, and now you. My Icon Mainframe saved my skull last Sunday. According to the rider directly behind me, my head bounced hard several times on the concrete.

Oh man, sorry to hear.  Kudos to the driver for admitting fault, though it would have been better if he didn't screw up in the first place.  Here's to hoping your injuries are minor and your recovery is speedy and complete chug

Hope you heal quickly and do not need surgery.  Take it easy and don't rush things.

Sorry about your crash and I hope you feel better soon.

BTW, MRI is better for soft tissue, but hopefully you'll feel better soon and it won't matter...

Bingo.  That's what I meant.  MRI - not CAT.  All those dang acronyms . . .

thx, Swampy.  Smiley

Yeah I took it a couple years ago.  I've been riding off and on since I was about 12.  Both crashes I've been in, have not been my fault and since I took the Motorcycle Safety Class  Huh?   It really was one of those split second things, I handled the best I could.   Laying in the ER getting Xrayed, I started wondering if I could have swerved the other direction and made it, but I don't think I could have acted that fast or evaluated which way he was going to go.

What do you mean a physician?
