how to protect boots from hot exhaust?

guys and dolls,
the s2r is a funny thing....putting that exhaust all on one side means both pipes go behind the right foot making it sit at a weird angle....i think the design is flawed actually...and the heat shields on the pipes themselves sit way too low for the rearsets and my BIG feet....
so...
the boot got burnt!
so...
I'll ceramic coat the headers, perhaps grind off the tabs for the shields....
is there some kind of tape that you can wrap the exhaust in to shield the boot? I'm sure I've read something about it before....didn't a septic wrap the whole system in it?
cheers

yeah there are a few who have taken a liking to wrapping the header pipes in tape.
not my thing really but if it serves a purpose.

Sounds like a job for ... RESCUE TAPE!
http://www.rescuetapeaustralia.com.au/
I saw this at the bike expo last year. Looked like good emergency stuff.
Thought, "I'll buy this later when I come past the booth again", but never did..

Had a similar problem with my Zards as they came with no boot heat shield.
So an afternoon in the garage with a SS screw clamp, old CF clutch cover, Dremel and a few other bits and this is the result.
No more burnt boot and works a treat...

This has been popular, but I've seen pictures of boots melting on the tape from the heat through it, so I don't know if it works at all....

With rearsets and size 12.5 boots I'm nowhere near the heat shields. My boots hit the rear pipe's s-bend. With the extra heel guard on my SIDIs they are hitting the passenger peg hangers and are forced even further out. So much for the cool shotgun style exhaust.
