Author Topic: How to tell if you have an upgraded Ducati ECU?  (Read 4340 times)

So I just recently purchased my monster and it came with a high mount termi carbon slip on.  I started messing with her today and when i took the tank off I noticed that the airbox has been chopped and the filter replaced with a K&N type filter.  Now i'm wondering if their is an upgraded ecu on the bike as i've seen on ducati's site, that they sell a "combo" exhaust, ecu, filter. How do I tell if I have the upgraded ecu? Can anyone snap a quick pic of it? I'm thinking its next to the battery?

Any help is appreciated.  I tried searching, but this forum is so new that i don't get too many results!

Oh, i think the charcoal canister is gone too... where would this have been originally mounted?  Next to the shock?

The ECU will have a code or a permanaent marker number on it.  Just call it in and ask if it is the upgraded ECU.  They are different for different model bikes.

I'm assuming this is right next to the batter then? I see two plugs there with a white label.

depends on the model/ year...

on on my old 03 620, it was mounted behind the right side panel right above the right foot peg. i think this was a fairly common location for the dual side swing arm bikes.
on all the s*r bikes, it was mounted up front on the left side.
not sure about the 695, but on the 696 it is mounted up front and low, similar to the s*r bikes

IIRC, the 695 is identical to the other DSS bike...

so if you've got high pipes, chances are you don't have your emissions can

The stock and DP ECU do look fairly different.  Unfortunately I am out of town and can't take a picture, maybe someone else can.  It is by the battery.

I have my stock ECU as well as my DP ECU for my S2R1K.  Not sure how different they are from a 695, but I can snap some pics tonight if youd like.

Here's the DP ECU that came with my Termi upgrade:


The ECUs look identical other than the different serial number stickers.

the stickers fall off.  most of the 2v dp 5.9m ecu (like the one in the photo) have a mts part number under any other part number, being for multistrada, which confuses a lot of people.  it's just what dp started with.

the ducati DDS or the technoreseacrh VDSTS (and maybe the Axone as well, haven't tried doing that) diagnostic systems will display the ecu part number, which is the only way i know of to really make sure of what you have.  dp ecu have a number starting with 9, like the photo.  std ecu are like the photo or have a 9 digit number starting with 2 from memory, 286xxxxxx maybe.
