Thank you, all...   :)

I remember finding it at my grandparents' house one day in my uncle's room.

I had to be maybe 7 or 8, and I was bored and looked in his closet.

I flipped up the trapdoor and an empty shell casing came popping out!  I almost jumped out of my skin!  [laugh]

I dropped the gun, ran away, and hid in the garage.  He found the gun laying on the floor and then found me in the garage...  ;)

Apparently, the gun had belonged to my Papa and he had given it to my uncle when he was around 10 years old, but had taken the firing pin out first...

About 15 - 20 years later, my Uncle gave to gun to me.   8)   I took it to a gunsmith who x-rayed it, cleaned it up and gave me a handful of "Cowboy Loads" he had laying around.

I took it to an outdoor range way up in the woods of Connecticut to test her out.  I went waaay down to the last table on the right to be away from all the guys with their scoped assault rifles...  Being the first time shooting something bigger than a bb gun, I was a little nervous, and intimidated.  I slid the first round home, flipped down the trapdoor, pulled back the hammer, and pulled the trigger...

KA-BOOOM!!!

Holy CRAP!!!  There must have been at least six feet of flame and smoke shooting out the end of the barrel!  Stunned, I sat there for a moment before starting to giggle maniacally.  I ejected the first shell casing, dropped another one in and did it again!

KA-BOOOM!!!

KA-BOOOM!!!

KA-BOOOM!!!

As I was reloading, still giggling, I slowly became aware that nobody else on the range was shooting anymore.  I put the gun down (empty and open) and slowly turned around to see 10-15 guys just staring at me.  Finally, an older gent came over and asked me about the gun.  I told him what little I knew and asked him if would like to shoot it.  He did.  Now I'm surrounded by a bunch of guys all wanting to look at my gun.  A couple of boxes of .45-70 mysteriously appeared on the table, and everyone wanted to take a turn to shoot it.  I'm a friendly guy, and being a total n00b, I obliged and let everyone take a shot or two...  It was a great way to get into shooting, IMHO...  Shortly after that, I moved to CA and had to leave the gun with my Uncle.  Now that I'm back, I'd like to pick up a nice .22 and maybe take a few shooting classes and learn about general gun safety/care/maintenance, etc...   [thumbsup]

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it

not sure about now, but eight years ago a box of 20 was like $25.00...

It had to be a certain kind of low pressure load, IIRC...

It was this stuff...  Cowboy Loads.  Lower velocity.

If I knew how to reload, or someone else who did, I'd save the brass...

I haven't shot the thing in 8 years...  I'm kinda eager to, though...   :D

@elyse...  ;D
