I bought the Philips X-Treme Power H4 when my high beam burnt out.  Pricey at $40 shipped for a pair, but I've been very happy with the brighter (claimed +80%) light output.  Very clean and white/yellow.

From my experience, although not specifically H4:

Standard Sylvania bulbs = crap for light = good bulb life

Fancier Sylvania bulbs = a little better light = crap bulb life

I would have to replace the fancier sylvania bulbs almost 2-4 times more often.

I noticed this in my car (low beams & driving lights), and was spending almost $100 a year on those stupid fancier sylvania bulbs.  I have now mostly switched back to the standard sylvania bulbs.

The bulbs that didn't get used too often (highbeams), still work.

No experience with the PIAA bulbs.

I use both (have 5 vehicles, 1 (the RX7) is for sale! . If you buy sylvania, get the silverstar's, they are top notch. I have used both and only had to buy them once.

I've had the PIAA for about 7k miles now.  +1 on being WAY brighter than stock.  No issues.

I tried the Sylvania Silverstar from Autozone.  I didn't notice any improvement, and it burned out within about 4 months.  Yes, I was careful not to touch the bulb.  Replaced with a PIAA that I bought at Cyclegear.  Noticeable improvement in light output.  Its only been about 2 months with the PIAA, so I don't know yet about lifespan.

Ebay has a few PIAAs in pairs for about the same cost as cyclegear has em.

http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=TUC_20-0148_G

ivan did they come in pairs or just singles?

also are the ebay ones fake? they look like they are japanese branded. and anyone can make a bulb and say its piaa and charge premium. i dont feel like paying $50 bucks for some crappy offshelf H4 $10 bulbs.

The PIAA (Extreme White Plus) that I bought at the local Cyclegear was a single bulb.  I may have paid too much for it, but I needed a replacement ASAP so I didn't really shop around.
