Any one from Vancouver can give advices?

Hi,

So, with the economic downturn, my company decided to close my location here in NJ. One of my relocation option is Vancouver, Canada. I have heard many great things about the place and it is my top choice to relocate to. I believe there's plenty of mountains / hills around the area that should make it an interesting place to ride my 696.

Anyone here from Vancouver can validate? Any advices?

Vancouver is a lot like Seattle and the rest of the PNW. I just moved from there back to the sun! It's beautiful up that way with a ton to do and a lot of good roads to ride. You'll enjoy it!

MAKE A SERIOUS INVESTMENT IN RAIN GEAR THOUGH!!

BTW..this is probably better in NMC.

PLUS..you're not too far away from THE BEST Ducati store/shop..Ducati Seattle!

Also..keep an eye for severed limbs if you get up that way!! It was a problem about a year ago. Not sure if they're still finding them??

Hi,

Vancouver is an amazing city. Tons of great restaurants, good night life and great scenery. If you like the great outdoors there is no better place. You can literally go windsurfing in the morning and skiing at night. World class mountain biking.On the downside the price of housing is can be steep. The riding is great. The road from Vancouver to Whistler and beyond beautiful with lots curves. The road is being improved for the 2010 Olympics. So far so good. There is a good Duc dealership here that has taken good care of me over the years. If you are going to ride year round you will definitely need rain gear. It's a rainforest. It gets wet here.

As to the severed limbs there hasnt been any washing up on shore for weeks...new tidal pattern?

Vancouver is a great city! I've only been there twice (I'm in Seattle), but I really liked the city both times. It is also very close to Whistler/Blackcomb if you're into snowboarding/skiing/mtn. biking. I've snowboarded pretty much everywhere in Tahoe (used to live in Reno), and I was still awed by Blackcomb.

+1 on rain gear if you want to ride more than 3-4 months per year. Aerostitch Darien is my recommendation...as are heated grips and Gerbing heated jacket.

Man, checking out the house prices. Crazy. Also median income is lower. Vancouver is even less affordable than NYC.

Hmmm... this maybe a bit of a problem.

You are right about the median housing prices. However, there are areas near the downtown core that are more reasonable. Try the realtylink.org website and try areas like East Vancouver, Mount Pleasant and Burnaby. Good luck!

I've lived in the Vancouver area for about 18 years. I came out from Eastern Canada for a short work gig, but decided to relocate here permanently. As many of the above posters already mentioned, if you like to hike, mountain-bike, camp, surf or ski/snowboard, this is the place for you. The standard of healthy living is pretty high compared to many other cities and depending on what your profession is, you may find this place ideal for your needs. Yes, it rains. Not 8 months out of the year as you may have heard. In fact we've only received about 4-5 days of rainfall since the beginning of May. Get good raingear and you'll be fine. There are two Ducati dealers/shops in Vancouver and Ducati Seattle just across the border, so getting good service is close by. Housing prices are steep, but they've actually come down quite a bit since last year and, like any city, different areas command different prices.
My advice to you is to come out and visit the city. Stay a little while and see how you like it.
