I'm going to schedule an 1100 Test ride in the near future. I'm coming from a Harley Sportster. What were your first impressions? How are the ergos? How is the throttle response? I really like the looks of her. Please post your replies and Ill send you a beer for your time.

i went from an sv650 to a m620ie and now to my m11oos. I love everything about the bike sofar. ergos are way more comfortable than both bikes. power is endless, even if youre in the wrong gear it still pulls.
granted only 300 miles sofar but ive enjoyed every foot

I think she's trying to tell you it's been discussed...
FWIW, I've got no FHE on the 1100 - but an amusing sorta related story. Ducati had a truck full of hypermotards (so at least it's the same engine) and I badgered a Street Rod riding buddy into going and playing with me.
We go on the little demo loop then back to the dealer. We get off the bikes and he's quite quiet for a moment, I ask,
"So, what'd you think? Fun huh?"
"Yeah... wow... everything was so... immediate"
So in short, throttle, brakes and direction changes are all going to be more crisp, quick and emphatic than you've experienced on the Sportster.
Ergos are fairly comfy for me - very dirt bike. I'm 5'11" 32" inseam. The seat is tall enough that I just touch flat foot with my legs full straight, and my butt still on the seat. As a by poduct of that height the pegs have a lot of ground clearance w/o being crammed up under you.
If you're gettting on it with that bike, your posture and position tends towards a weird mix of dirty bike and sport aka Supermoto. You want to scootch up on towards the front of the seat, and the wide bars allow you a ton of leverage if you pick up your elbows, amking the bike very easy to filck over.

I went from a sporty to a Duc S4R and WOW. Immediate is not the word, telepathic is more like it. I had to get used to not leaning back like on the HD or else I'd wheelie. Trust me that's a whole new experience on it's own.
Moving the bike will seem effortless,
riding the bike you will be in heaven,
leaning the bike you won't be scraping the pegs every time. I broke the clutch lever leaning to much on the Harley.
The throttle for me was like having a supercharger compared to the sporty.

I bought my M1100S in Jan and rode prolly around 5.5 months out the 7 I've had it. I have over 6200 miles on it and it's a great bike!
Originally, I thought the torque was too much, but I'm used to it now. I have full termis (minus db killers) and an open clutch, so it's kinda loud, but I wear ear plugs 90% of the time I ride.
As I'm sure you've read, get the DP touring seat. My flat butt really thanked me.
