I'd love to say I am getting good advice here but the pictures seemingly don't show it good enough for some people. There is no masking off at this point, it's all in pieces as shown in the pics; no need to call any ask a place to mask anything as it all has been removed already.

I am aware there is no masking necessary at this point. I was recommending against continuing down the path you're going down as you have, to my knowledge, not yet verified that the packing even needs to be removed. You may be making no end of unnecessary work for yourself.

I agree I have completely stepped into quicksand a bit... I do think if I can just make it to Home Depot I can get a tool and scoop this stuff right out easily, I think my main problem is I got out of work, was frustrated to start with, and just started digging with a coat hanger, not really the most effective tool or mindset...

I have some minor logistical issues right now with making it over to Home Depot, I think I can easily find the right tool to make quick work of this if I can just get my foot into the store... Hopefully this week, if I fail I will see if they can take them like this.

My biggest new worry is how I will rivet these without damaging the new finish, not sure how rough a rivet gun is or how durable ceramic coating is, those two factors will play a big part of the final step... If these come out correct they will be bad ass, if these come out awful then I will hunt down some low mount Termis that will also be bad ass...

Ceramic coating is pretty durable. but when you use a riveter, the tool itself never touches the object, unless you drop it on the thing your trying to rivet.You can buy a hand riveter for ~$25-30 bucks at home depot and it includes several riveting heads for different sizes. just make sure you bring the old rivet so know what size you need. they are cheap like $6 bucks a pack.

Agree about the rivet gun. It never HAS to touch the pipes, either put the rivet in the gun or right in the hole...and pull. It only takes a few minutes and is probably the easiest part.

so... the ceramic coat quoting from Jet-Hot is around $550...

It breaks down that each pipe is $130 and the header is listed as a dual so that's around $240... shipping is estimated at $39 and they will charge another $50 to strip.

um.... anyone else thinks this looks high?

I saw someone else post that they paid something like $150 for their entire ceramic job, that pretty much the cost of just one can being coated off these guys! I will call them this week but I am thinking the Termis might make more sense, dammit just don't know if this is worth it, seems the coat job will cost more than the pipes...

I am leaning rattle can now but might call around, $300 was the most I expected (based on what I had heard)...

it depends on your area. If they are the only guys doing it, and everyones doing it for hte same price. then thats the market value of that service.

I'f thats the price, id justBBQ spray paint it. Thats what I have. and its holding up fine, except for the udder are where i just got lazy and didnt let it dry properly.

Just wanted to update the thread... Like a caveman I stuffed the packing back in, WOW is it tight but I managed to get it all in there. I think packing uneven would be impossible as it's so tight, I really had to pack it in hard each piece all the way to the last, I still am amazed I managed to fit it all back in.

I need to hit these with some primer then paint, rivet and done. Considering repainting the header pipe but might not bother, not sure yet.
