ok.  Long story short.  I was tired of not being able to ride my 2002 Monster due to the bozoimmobizer.
I'd gone through too many sets of gauges and was not about to waste money on another stock set.
I've replaced one set when the bike was a 620, and the second set on the bike as a 900 looked like a christmas tree refusing to allow the bike to start about 50% of the time, that plus the speedo needle fell off.   That was 3 sets of stock gauges that had failed me.  I personally know people who've gone through a whopping 8 sets, but they were lucky to get them replaced under warranty.  Unfortunately I tried the ECU reflash which I thought would solve my problem, but alas it didn't work for me, (and I'm out the money for the reflash, but I won't go into that here) perhaps this is why no one lists the 2002 900 on their list.  My last ditch effort in getting the bike to start and run reliably was to strip out the entire 2002 wiring harness, ECU and gauges and replace them with a harness and ECU from a pre-immobilizer year.  This gave me the ability to run after market gauges as well which was always on my "want list".

First: I need to thank 2001chromo for all the help with this!  It proved to be very difficult and frustrating working together long into the night LOL!!!  But we made it through, and I learned A LOT!!  Much quicker than he anticipated I think.  hee hee!!!

Second: I want to give a HUGE thumbs up to Joe and all of his guys at Brooklyn Machine Works, a custom bicycle shop.  Joe allowed us to keep the bike in his shop with full run and access, we spent almost every sat night (after work) and every sunday there since early March, a huge help considering we live in an apartment building and usually have to perform mods on the sidewalk/street here in NYC.  The guys at Brooklyn also helped out by sharing their welding expertise, as well as ideas and moral support!

Back in March of this year 2001chromo and I stripped the old stock wiring harness out of the bike.

March 29, Day 1:

week 2:  We layed out a 2000 M900 wiring harness and contemplated/brain stormed how we were going to make this work.  The regulator rectifier would need to be relocated from the rear position to the front of the bike.  A mount for a 2001 M900 ECU would have to be fabbed as well,  and this was all just the beginning.

week 3:  One of the guys at the shop welded tabs on the front cross piece of the frame for me to mount the regulator rectifier.

week 3:  we remove the stock rear coil mount and move it to the inside of the frame from it's stock position on the outside of the bike.
Seth at the shop rewelds the mount into the new position.  This was done so that I can mount my DP aluminum side panels, which would not   fit with the rear coil in it's stock position.

it's difficult to make out from this photo, but does show the nice pretty weld Seth did, and looks better than stock now!

fast forward a few weeks, now in May:

we make a "tray" to hold the electronics in the rear of the bike out of Kydex, which is easy to use.  Heat it up, bend it into the shape you want, let if cool off Voilà!

ended up replacing the flasher relay with an electronic one, Badlands Metric Flash Pro which eliminated the need for me to mount resistors for my LED turn signals.

the new tray also helps keep water/debris from soaking everything back there as well.

(ps. I turned the bolts around after this photo was taken)

we installed my new KOSO gauges.

I still need to sort out the speedo pick up/sensor.  We used the one that came with the kit but quite frankly it sucked.  So still in the process of installing a new one.

Fired the bike up and it started on the first turn of the key!!!!!!! WOO HOO!! That's already 100% better than what I had!

added a bit ' BMW bling!  some end caps from Brooklyn Machine Works.

a couple of weeks ago I wrapped the headers, coated them.

I also roughly "polished" my DP aluminum front fender and seat cowl.  Replaced my "old" British gas mask with a smaller Canadian one.

And finally got to ride it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then quickly, second week, got a ticket for straight pipes.  I LOOOOOVE NYC!!!!!!!

almost final product:

There was much more that was done, but I can't remember it all, it's a long blur!!!  Believe me this is a looong story shortened.

in the next few weeks I will have a "new" tank for the bike.  I will be stripping the paint off another tank and clear  (powder) coating it.  Then mounting old Ducati wing tank badges (almost done).

Also need to send out my front rim to fix a dent as well and I'm done!

Always loved your bike! Looks mean as hell. WHat did you wrap around the fork?
is your next tank going to be Bare steel, a bit polished up with a clear coated gloss or matte?

I think that would look make the beast with two backsing AWESOME.

that's exactly the plan!  I'll probably go gloss on the clear, it will probably look matte after I ride it anyway  Grin

Handle bar tape? never seen it.  i thought it was an inner tube.  Tongue

The clearing a steel tank is what ive been trying to do for a long ass time. I missed an auction last night for a 03 steel tank with all the bells and whistles cause i got home late. Sad

I just picked up some 500% gloss clear powder last night, ill post up pics when im done doing my aluminum cowl, if you like it, i can cut some of it for you for your PCer to use. not sure if you have the DP aluminum cowl on your bike, or thats just white vinl, but if is the former, id clear that too!

where did you get those brake lines?

The brake lines are from HEL.

And it's inner tube on the forks... to match the rubber of the gas mask.

The seat cowl and front fender are both DP as well as my chin fairing, which I've misplaced LOL.

I Googled 'em and they sell parts and bikes on their website at www.brooklynmachineworks.com.   They have at  least one new customer and hope they get  more.

That is great.  Thank you for posting!  I wonder how many Ducs are gathering dust because of an immobilizer that won't let them start.

It's nice to see someone with the insane passion for thier Monster the way I have it.  I've watched your progress (on the bike, as a rider and as a person) through your posts on the old DML and here on the DMF.  (Quite frankly wondering where you had gone lately....)

Your passion for your Monster is exceeded only by your love for riding and modding.  Keep everything going girl...

b/c you make the beast with two backsing rock.   waytogo
