Relocating to Raleigh, NC

Hello everyone, I posted this in the No Moto Content board, but thought I would throw it out here too.
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=26845.0
Basically I'm looking for a programming job in the Raleigh/Durham area. I'm mostly a web guy, but have experience in desktop programming, as well as schooling in micro-controllers and low level hardware stuff.
My soon to be wife will be moving down there on Aug. 23rd and I'm looking to follow asap, so any advice on moving/renting/buying in the area would be great. Looking forward to meeting you all once I make the move!

Good luck. I don't know of any current openings, but we usually use a contracting company for the programming stuff. Of course, now's a bad time since most companies are trying to reduce their expenses for the end of the year.

Yeah...My hunt hasn't been going as well as I would have liked. It also hard to get anyone to even look at your resume without a local address. Things might get better after we lease an apartment for the wife and I have a local addy to put on it.

Yeah, the IT market here is rough at the moment.

Hello again.
So I got some good news today. My current employer in Kalamzoo MI has offered to let me telecommute from my new location in Garner. So Jessica and I will be moving in a couple weeks and I don't have to find a job right away. I'm really looking forward to moving into the area, and enjoying my new-found climate. Once I'm settled, I'd love to setup a night out at the bar or something to meet any of you guys who are interested. I'll post up something when we get settled.
I was wondering, do most of you put your bikes up for winter at all? Or are there just a few days/weeks where you don't ride? I'm really looking forward to the extra riding time, just wondering how much more.
I'm sure I'll be posting some more questions when I have them, so be prepared. Looking forward to meeting you all!

". . . put your bikes up for the winter . . ." Anyone know what he's talking about?
Seriously though, as a former South Bend, Indiana resident, I know what you mean. I used to store the bikes away Sept or Oct and wouldn't get them out again until Mar. Oh, there was the occasional New Years Days Ride but I don't remember too many of those! (Must have been the anti-freeze!) Winters get down to freezing or below but not for long. Put the bike up on stands, plug in the battery charger and wait for those sunny and dry days to pop up. I ride every month.
Oh, and welcome to the neighborhood!

I was out riding on Christmas day. There really are only a few days you won't be able to ride.
I was just thinking the other day we should have a group get together with some food and BSing again, so a get-together sounds good to me.

+1 I'm sitting in a lecture room listening to a boring lecture on spin oscillations. I need a break!

Like electron spin, or something else?

Yeah, electron spin.
Today, it was spin teleportation...a way around the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. Much more interesting.
Now, where's my pocket protector...

I love that stuff. The way entanglement between 2 electrons would allow the change in the spin in one to change the other theoretically allowing faster than light communications.

Hey...I'm going to get my NC license and register all my vehicles tomorrow. Am I going to have to take a riding test here in NC, or will they just transfer my Michigan endorsement?
I'm looking around online, but haven't found much info yet.

When I moved here from Va. all I had to do was take the written part of the exam and pass the eye test. That was 3 years ago so YMMV.

<rant>
So I just failed the motorcycle portion of the DMV Exam. I passed the Driving part with flying colors. But the moto test seemed so .... wrong ...There were questions that, in my experience and reading, didn't have the right answer. I sat there thinking to myself, "If I were asked to explain how to make an emergency stop min-turn, I could do so, no problem. But looking at these four choices, none of them really even hit on the money, which shitty answer do I pick?". Grrrrr. Well, I guess I have to go back tomorrow. But this threw and even bigger wrench in my plans, because My Car, and both Bike's Michigan registrations expire today, my birthday. Since I didn't actually get my NC License today, I can't register them here. I took the morning off to stand in line, but now I can't. Pity ME! Sorry for the rant, just had to get this somewhere.
