Im looking at an 07 950 SM with 8k miles.  I know some of you guys have experience with KTM, and I would appreciate any info you can share on possible issues, maintenance or anything you can think of.  I'm searching around some of the KTM boards as well but the DMF seems to have a huge amount of collective knowledge of all things motorbike related.  Thanks.

PM Monsterlover.

I think that's what he has.

Get a brand new one  - zero miles - at my home town shop for $10,800.  That's a great deal. waytogo

Dunno if this stuff is still going on, but my buddy with a 950 Adv has dealt with:

Water pump shaft/seal issues.
Alternator rotor bolts issues.

ADVrider has a BIG KTM contingent.

No, probably going to trade in the monster  Cry   Kind of sad but I just want to switch things up a little.  If I could afford to keep two bikes I would definitely do it.  I love my S2R but even though it looks a million times better than the ktm, the fun factor just doesn't compare.  The dealer let me take it for a ride today and it was incredible!  I was laughing out loud the whole time. Second gear power wheelies, amazing brakes, I've never felt more comfortable and confident on any bike. I don't understand how a bike that big can feel that light and nimble. I'm hooked.  Im still a Ducati guy though  Smiley  I've been drooling over the hyper since I saw the first concept photos, just can't afford it. Anyway, thanks everyone for the input.  I'll update with pics if I do the deal.

Ive built a couple... Problems include

Water pump seal
Speedo cluster
Wheel speed pickup
Head gaskets the leak (KTM calls it a "weep" unless it leaves a drop on the floor and doesnt warranty it)

If you de-restrict it (US only) its a great bike! MUCH different feel than a Duc...

I like KTMs, I'm biased since I have one. There is a pretty good thread on ADVRider for the 950 supermotos.

There's definitely more of an aftermarket luggage selection for the KTMs.
