Hello, I'm about to purchase  monster.  I am desperately attempting to gather all the info I need to make an educated purchase.  I have asked many questions.  The one I have now is in reference to the annual cost of a lets say 2009 696 brand new vs. a monster from around 2001-2006.  I know that there are exceptions, but for the most part people take very good care of the monsters.  I really like the look of the new monster (who doesn't?), but all the monsters look great and I'm sure that they would make be a happy rider.  To the question; is there really a big difference in maintenance cost between the new and used monsters?  If the used ones are going to cost much more in upkeep I will get a new one.  If there is not a big difference between the two types, I will go for the used 750 or 900. I am thankful for any advice that you might have on this topic.  Thank you very much for your time.  Have a good day!

Me.  Grin

But seriously, I believe Ducati was offering free maintenance of some sort for all new purchases, so that might be something you may want to look into if you're considering the 696 or 1100.  Also, not sure of what year this started, but they increased service intervals from 6k miles to 7500 miles on older style monsters. I don't think they did anything to the bikes themselves, they just lengthened the intervals.  Somebody with more info will chime in I'm sure.

Here's a link to the free maintenance promotion I was talking about.

Looks like if you buy a new bike before August 31st, you get the 600 mile service and 7500 mile service free (if you get to 7500 before 12 months).

actually, the service interval has increased from 6,000 miles to 7,500 miles for all ducs model year 2007 and up, not prior.  chalk up another point for the m696/1100, unless you find an '07 s2r/s4r...

That's what I meant, just didn't know which year it started. They didn't actually do anything to the bike to make the intervals longer, they just did it on paper.
