the best way is too take the baffles out completely doing any other way is going to cause damage to the aluminium outers , the baffles are stainless and are tough plus with the baffle removed completely gives a deeper sound  waytogo

Hi Shoggy, don't worry if you stuff your coring mod, I have a spare set of cans sitting in the shed.

I assume you're gonna core them, every one is saying thus ....  Wink mods are addictive round here.

I didn't think that they were 'removable' in the stock cans mate? (in aftermarket Termis etc they are)....the ones on the old monster certainly weren't...they were punctured.

anyway shoggy will educate all us degenerates once he gets the details.

nice offer Dos (back from the dead?)....I'll take your wheels and fender then!

Nothing is "non-removable". Heh, heh.heh. Evil

All jokes aside there are a couple of companies that advertise "recoring" of stock mufflers. I think I've seen one in AMCN??  waytogo

okay cut 2 flat strips in the end of the can take out secondy baffle , slide end cap of , slide outer sleeve off revealing primary baffle , run drop saw down and leaving 1cm cut off baffle run some silicon around ends and replace and rivert at each corner put back on bike ,not only will have music to die for but you just got rid of 5 kilos , shouldnt take any more than a hour , waytogo

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Haven't sat down yet and looked into the can coring process, when I do get it done I will post the results. One question though, for the guys who have done it before, can I control the change in noise levels? Want a better note without waking the neighbors morning and night (shiftworker!). Huh?

See cards do work, if we get one in five people carded we'll do well.
With summer coming up if you need cards let me know there are still some left in the box.

yes you can regulate how much noise , firstly the end cap which has to come out first take care removing this as they are  very tight fit  but it will reduce noise by half , if you still have the cat you wont ever be too loud cheers bazz

Hi folks...like Shoggy, I ride daily and want a better noise without going to 4k+ termipipes...grrrrr...or making TOO much racket - but i'm bloody useless with anything where you can mess it up or scrape your knuckles...anyone know somewhere really good in Sydney (North Side, but doesn't really matter...) that could do the 'core' job?? Would it affect the remaining 12 months of warranty I have?
PS: the advice in this thread has been most helpful so far, thanx. Has made it worth joining the forum already...

Welcome Shoggy,
You can read my post here
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=505.0
re the can coring process, there is a couple of others on the board, just do a search.
There is a couple of things you can do to reduce the volume, one is putting the end washer back in, another is to graft a tube in there and wrap it with some muffler packing. I'm pretty sure that somewhere in the board I've seen a full description on how to do this.

Tim Jim,

is that a S2R1000 in the picture? If so I had my Termi's for sale for $1500.....so it doesn't have to cost you that much. Coring is cool too! Have a good ride!
