Yet another exhaust question
«
on:
May 21, 2008, 10:13:02 AM »
Now that I have my 696, I would like to install Tremis, but which finish?
Carbon
looks very nice but I've read that their finish doesn't look good for long.
Stainless
always looks good and the price is even better. The final version is
Titanium
. , my first choice in finish, but it is a different exhaust, street legal (euro 3 legal with a small converter inside) I wonder if this exhaust has the same sound and performance as the other two systems which are not street legal with removable baffles.
I asked the dealer about the Ti. exhaust and he said they installed a simular muffler on a 1098 and that the sound was about as loud as the C.F. exhaust. He did not have any info on the Ti. 696 system except what was already in the catalogue.
Thanks Dan.

Congrats on the new bike!!
I'd really like to test-ride one soon.....
As far as the CF Termis not looking good for long, I haven't found this to be true....I mean, they DO get lighter in color over time, but I've seen old ones that look just fine, so I guess it depends....
On the other hand, The stainless ones look nice too so it's a tough choice....Good luck and POST PICS!!!

You do know that your bike officially does not exist until you bring donuts and post pics.

where will the bike be stored - faded carbon is usually the result of sun (UV) damage because the bike is left outside, day in, day out for years.
(you can get uv protectants however)

Congrats, go for the carbon, they last just as long as what you are prepared to look after them

My bike will only be stored in my garage. If most visual of the damage is from UV, and not from exhaust heat, I'll probably go with the CF because the dealer has them in stock and the colors will better match with the black on the bike. The stainless also looks cool and the price is a little better $950 vs $1350.
I will try to post pics soon.
Thanks, Dan

know any info regarding weight of the stainless vs. carbon ? that would be interesting data.
My termis (carbon) saved nearly 8kg (17 pounds) over stock steel
you'll be fine with carbon if stored undercover.

A buddy of mine has GPR pipes on his monster and they sound great!! Really good deal too when you consider how much oncycles was/is blowing them out for. The only thing that kept me from getting them is the fact that I don't care for the header pipes on them. I also think the cans are a bit long for my tastes, but YMMV on that part. Check them out.

Arrows look nice, but currently there are only tremis for the 696, and they are on back order, along with most other 696 parts.
I like that you also get an ecm and filter. The price has come down some with the tremis. I believe because there is less plumbing to the exhaust (and no udder) with the cat being in the exhaust cans, they are basicly slip ons.

I cant imagine ether one weighing much more than the other. I would like to know the weight differance between tremis vs. stock cans. I finally saw a demo 696 w/ tremis and they are much smaller in person. In the pics of the side view Ive seen, stock and tremis look almost the same size and shape. But from the rear view , the tremis look almost half the thickness and simple looking!

When you do buy them, get the mechanics to weigh them and post it up her with pictures of course!
that way you've added to the DMWW knowledge base!
enjoy. I can see why you would be enjoying the DP accessories catalog, I downloaded it and thought it was pretty good. The carbon front sprocket cover is a cool looking thing...and the instrument case....and the center fuel cell strip (that is actually a copy of a paint job I eventually want on mine...nude carbon centre stripe, bright red outer.
