I was talking to my neighbor who has a new 1098 and he was saying something about the valves. He said that he was told that at the first check (7500 miles) they didn't do the valves which made it much cheaper. Do any of you know anything about that? It could easily be wrong, or maybe something that is just for the 1098. I don't know and would like to learn if it would really be that much more cost effective to buy a 2007+ model. Thanks

I thought for the 2 valve bikes the dealer 7,500 service was more like $800.

$800 for a 2 valve is still expensive. If you look around there are a lot of dealers charging WAY too much for these services. You should be in the $400 range plus parts if needed.

I was quoted $620. But they only check the belts, no replacement til 15k. He said they do check and adjust valves and sync injectors. To me, it doesn't sound too bad. Something you have to do in-order to keep warranty.

Was anyone actually able to hit the 12.000 km or 7.500 miles in one year ?
In 6.5 months I'm at 7180 miles. I'm adding another 900 miles in 3 days soon. So, yes to your question. It's not a commuter bike, I just go on long rides on the weekends. I look at it this way. I can stare at it or ride it.

Last year I rode for 6 short months and put on 5500. this year I might only put on 3500. Weather has sucked and getting older allows the cold to do great harm to the fingers.

Does anyone know how much a color change kit costs for the 696? I would really like to have a white and a red for those days I just want to be true to ducati!

goto nick at valley ducati or call him if he is in your area, he is fair and much cheaper and just as good of work as a "ducati dealer".
the reason why even the 2 valve adjustments are so expensive in the few hundreds of dollars is because after you see what has to be done to get to the vertical cylinder and how little space you have unless you have the time its something you will glady pay someone else to do the work. even if a person is "very good" at adjusting the valves and such it still takes a few hours to do all the stuff required at a 7.5k service interval. its not as "easy" as some others may make it out to be, sure "technically" its not very difficult to do, but its all that stuff you have to do just to get to the workspace that makes it difficult.

Why, yes. Yes, I do.

They're $699, at least for "normal" colors. The platinum silver is apparently more.

Does anyone know when the 2010 monsters are going to come out? I would really like to get a sneak peak of what they might look like. Thanks

"The second verse, same as the first."
I wouldn't expect any changes beyond color choices, if that.
