I saw a free preview last week on base. So far, everything said here is right on the money. It was just a fun movie. Something to reminisce over from my childhood. The acting was as good as can be expected and it was pretty much non-stop action. There was a lot of cheese is some spots and it ended with an in-your-face foreshadowing to a sequel.

What he said. Personally, I would have gone to see it for Sienna Miller alone.
The worst thing about it, I thought, was the piss-poor casting. Except for Miller and Eccleston. Dennis Quaid doesn't have the hard-ass gene, Channing Tatum should stick to his ghetto dance flicks, and the retarded Wayans brother was just a bad, bad choice.
See, I liked Quaid, but I didn't like Eccleston as much. That would be the one I would change. Although, I should say he was a much better villain in
GI Joe
than in
Gone in 60 Seconds
.
However, if I could change only one thing, I would take Heavy Duty and make that guy keep the same African accent he did when he was on LOST as Mr. Eko. He was awesome on that show. But instead we get him with a low-class British accent.

Did anyone else have thought of Team America running through their head during the Paris scenes? I almost laughed out loud when it hit me.
I realize the bike scenes were mostly, if not all, cgi but damn, you would think that they could have made it a bit more realistic. It was a nice bike, though. I saw a couple at the shop this weekend. Nice.

yea, too much CGI in the bike scene. Wasn't bad tho. Like was stated before, it was entertaining. Went with my 12yr old. He was a big GI Joe fan a few yrs ago, when they released a couple of direct to video cartoon movies. Don't expect plot, good acting or such. You gotta figure, they are looking at the success of Transformers, thinking they can milk at least 2 to 3 movies out of it.

like i said, hot evil brunette and hot redhead in a movie both wearing skin tight body forming outfits. that right there is a good formula for the theater to make at least 50$million on just having that.

im baffled by people that try to analyze this movie.
i saw it, and i give it a 6 out of 10... as a film...
as a GI JOE MOVIE, i give it an 8 out of 10!
Have you ever seen an episode of the GI JOE cartoons??! It's a 15-20 minute bonanza if piss-poor character dialog with ZERO plot, ZERO character development, and NO POINT other than to sell toys...
This movie is the exact same thing. It is a 2 hour long, PERFECT REITERATION of EXACTLY what GI Joe was.
They nailed it in my opinion.
Yes some of the acting sucked. But it was very comparable to the voice acting in the cartoon IMO.
There were Guns. There were explosions. There were hot chicks in tight ass outfits, one of which got her face all bruised up, which, IMHO, is the sexiest look on a girl PERIOD... There were was comic relief (allthough no Bazooka :/)...
It was a 2 hour episode of GI Joe. Go in with that expectation..
You're not going to get the "Batman Begins" or "Dark Knight" of GI Joe... Ever...
Argh sorry guys.. Not directed at anyone, or even this forum... I got in a discussion over it at work today....
Go see it, and keep in mind what i've said... It's a fun movie to watch! I'd have killed to see it when i was 12.

Did cobra commander cover his face? Did he have a lisp? Did Destro wear a silver mask? Did the Baroness have a sexy, bad Russian accent?
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both Transformers movies even though the critics didn't exactly love them, but from the previews I just could not get fired up about them not even trying to show more of the original cartoons.

as Nakid said, yes.. the made an attempt at these smaller details.
It's the RISE of Cobra... so keep in mind they are trying to show how things in the GI Joe world as we know it came about.
Key word: Trying.

Hopefully it was not abused and unceremoniously laid down like the Aprilia RSV in transformers...
that movie IMHO was a waste of an Aprilia and nothing more
