Look, I'm
all
about the BARF-hate, but it's starting to feel like every second post is something about it.
Where's my flip-the-bird icon when I need it?

Getting
info
from BARF? that's novel...people usually go there for abuse and a good laugh
Only because they have a thread about the wreck and one poster was behind the Norton when he got hit and another poster sold the 1198 to the other rider. Not the normal BARF posters. That is why there was some actual information.

Yup.
I really hope that the print version of that story emphasizes how awful it is that someone was trying to screw up an event that benefits the fire department that serves their own community.

I suppose that if we were to look at it from their perspective, I'm gonna guess that La Honda's Fire Dept. is a tad busier scrapin' up riders offa 9 than they are putting out chimney fires and rescuing kitty cats out of trees. Get rid of the bikers and La Honda's Fire Dept. might go out on a few runs a month, instead of daily(?).

agreed in theory, but perhaps a mute point ... the residents still need/benefit from fire protection that the department provides the community.
and to spidey's point, i did mention (a few times) to the reporter that LDD contributes between 15 and 20% of the yearly budget funding to the fire department, and that the residents i have spoken with (and anecdotally through conversations with larry) are appreciative of what LDD brings to their community.
we will see what gets printed in the hmb paper ... and more importantly, what the police investigation yields.

Sure, but then you throw down nails or oil on some Sat or Sunday that's
not
LDD. Then again, why use rational thought when we're talking about an asshole who'd throw oil or nails on the road to make riders crash. Oil, in particular, is make the beast with two backsed up. It's like taht dude a while ago who strung a rope or wire or sumptin across a dirt bike trail.

Perspective.
Let me run down the dumbmake the beast with two backsery I've seen in less than a year:
1) Every nice weekend becomes noisy.
2) Hard to get anywhere when there's a wreck (often)
3) Getting passed on the
right
4) Tailgated by people with their high beams on while you're actively looking for a place to let them by safely
5) Random gathering of motorcyclists stopped...in the street
6) make the beast with two backsers in my lane. Daily.
7) Triple digit speeds on my road
At some point, your goodwill is exhausted. Sort of how tourist towns hate tourists.
I love watching the bikes go by-all of 'em. The little groups of each type, etc etc, but we don't do ourselves any favors, specifically with some of the behavior that gets pulled.

and no, I'm not saying it's warranted, but one day of the year we doing something nice, and the other 364-we annoy the locals. At some point, no one gives a shit.

That sounds a lot like the folks who move next to Laguna Seca and then complain about the noise. DON'T BUY A HOUSE THERE.
I feel genuine sorrow for the folks who have always lived there, and whose idylic mountain communities have been ruined by the racetrack of 35, 84, 9 and others. But for anyone who moved there in the last 20 years? Screw them. I don't care if they feel exasperated. They knew--or should have known--what they were getting into.

You've just described the reasons I try to stay off the peninsula rides. Sure, dumbmake the beast with two backsery goes on in Marin and the East Bay, but it;s not so...concentrated. Or obvious.

If you were shown the area on a weekday-you wouldn't know, would you? Same goes for winter.

That attitude is exactly why nails get dumped on the corners. If we actually practiced a reasonable noise level, passes that weren't obnoxious, and could keep our bikes upright, I suspect the locals might not be trying to kill the motorcyclists.
I don't see any good reason why triple digit speeds, excessive noise violations, and being a general nuisance should be perfectly acceptable in front of my house, and not say, yours.

Uh, yeah, I would. Didn't you ever go riding up there? (I generally avoid the area for exactly that reason)

I'd throw nails in the street if someone did that shit in front of my house. Which is why I live somewhere where they don't. Besides, triple digit speeds, noise violations and being a general nuisance sounds like a successful day of riding in my book. [moto]
