For those of you with the older S4 series Ducati 4-valve Monsters, I'm posting to confirm that a S*R swingarm fits perfectly, S4 shock and linkage works per S4R factory setup, and the S*R series rearsets (with factory spacers) fit as well to the combination.

You need to utilize the S*R series speedo pickup and brakeline.

If you used the S*R rearsets, you still have the original rearser tabs on the S4 frame. (you can leave or cut/grind them off)

I still like the look (and 1" shorter length) of the SBK (916/996/998) singlesided swingarm -- but it requires engine case machining.  Not for the regular enthusiast to try to be honest.

The S*R swingarm onto the S4 -- anyone could do the swap within an hour or two. (ok -- some of you it might be an afternoon!)

Essentially it makes your S4 exactly like a S4R series Monster when done.

Would my Rizamo rear sets will work? And what about the exhaust?

If the S4 assembly will fit an ST, then it would be safe to assume an S*R would fit an ST or am I missing something?

So, the shock reservoir clears the swingarm at full compression?

S4 has 6 pulses to drive the speedo, S*R has 4.  That's a small issue...

If S4R rearsets -- yes.  S4 would work BUT technically you need to support the outer pivot swingarm pivot shaft in double shear somehow. (some folks don't but the shaft will bend eventually)

You would need to use an S4R exhaust -- the S4 rear header won't pass through the S*R swingarm assembly.

Put one on a sport classic [thumbsup]

We will be doing that upcoming for a customer's SportClassic -- and a few other modifications and it will have wire wheels as well.

S4Foggy here has a Penske w/remote reservoir.  No clearance problems with this setup.  I don't have a S4/S4R rear shock here to check for clearance issues.  S4R exhaust fits without problems.

Big issue!  What Stuart is referring is to the attachment bolts for the disc itself which the speedo sensor uses to sense motion.  (4) on the S4R and (6) on the S4.  Anyone have a solution? (one could be an electronic speedo recalibration kit inline which would work at high speed but parking lot speeds would be a bit delayed)

I've heard of a product called the 'Speedo-Healer' but haven't had a chance/need to check it out.  It *may* be the plug & play answer to that problem...or not.

Please pardon my conspicuous dumbness, my 2001 S4 has a cable driven speedo. When did they go to an electronic?

'02 was the across-the-board changeover to electronic speedo.

So all in all would this be a less expensive route than purchasing the custom swing arm from a vendor?

Probably would be depending on your purchase price & whether or not you are doing the work yourself.

Can I confirm a few things. I have converted an s4 to and s4r. Firstly you need to get as many s4r or s2r parts. Swingarm, hub sprockets and brake. You also need s4r shock or s2r basic shock. The old shock WILL NOT FIT. You also need s4r exhaust system or a custom made system. You will be best to grind off old footrest brackets . You will need to make new pillion mount bracket if you are taking pillion. You will need to weld a exhaust hanger onto frame. You may have to cut into frame as ducati crimp theres on s4r/s for clearance issue of shock reservoir.

Heres my post on ukmoc for conversion
