I can't say what you should buy. I can only say what I went through buying one last year.
I have an old mans helmet (prob because I'm an old man). Its a Nolan flip front. N102 I think. Its a lot quieter than my old AGV. Most of the noise with helmets seems to come from the gap under the chin. The Nolan has a piece that fits closely to my neck that can only be achieved by having a flip front. Its not totally quite but the wind noise is easily blocked out with earplugs, unlike the AGV which had more of a roaring sound.
Prob not for everyone but I find it warm and reasonably quite which I value more than the looks.
Let us know what you end up buying and why.

Just for the record, a friend of mine (who has an Arai head) has just bought himself a BMW helmet - they are on sale for $399 at Pro-cycles as they are no longer being imported. No fancy colours, but they do have some fair looking solids.
I have a Shoei head, and tried one on today, oddly enough, it fit quite well, though the placing of the chin strap is something I found awkward. Will be trying again later this week, just in case I can get the chin strap to work properly for me. For $399, it's a hell of a helmet.

Ninja edit - the BMW logo is small, at the back of the helmet (about the size of a lady bug) and easily removed

Might as well add in my experience. After Jukie unintentionally dismantled her helemnt on an Ozmo ride about a year ago I used it as an excuse to upgrade my relatively cheap helmet too.
Similarly to Matty I went down a size (although different brands) based on the idea that the smallest helmet you can cram on your head is the right size ... and once it is on you hardly notice it. It is a smaller shell and lighter than the previous helmet and made a huge difference in riding comfort. It is a Shoei (XR I think) and is well ventilated. However it is not without its problems.
Being such a good fit it is a little more difficult to get on which results in earplugs being dislodged and ears being relocated to my shoulders - this doesn't add to the comfort level. Helmets generally are a noisy place to be and it is wind noise rather than the 'tweety birds' that have me wearing earplugs. So to get around the inconvenience of the helmet relocating my ears I wear either a balaclava or head sock which allows the helmet to slip on easily ... but it reduces the cooling effect of the vents.
I also have and use the chin curtain which is meant to reduce wind noise but honestly I can't really tell the difference. The most effective thing (other than earplugs) I have used to prevent wind noise is a neck warmer as it is soft and fills all the void space. Also I think a lot of wind noise is not just generated by the helmet but also the top of your jacket. So the combination of earplugs, head sock, neck warmer tucked up into the chin curtain make the helmet quite a quiet place if only my riding companion didn't have such a noisy bike ...

Thanks Zee I will be up that way tomorrow. For that price I can't go wrong & the plain colours are fine.

oh, that is frickin rich, a bloody TASMANIAN is telling ME about being weird...."Hello Pot, this is kettle here, just a quick call to let you know that you're black!".
Weirdness is the second greatest export of Tasmanian behind wood; and the two are intrinsically linked....the deeper you go in the woodlands...the weirder they are!
now...back to helmets!

now now we have had this conversation be for and was proved the further north you go the weird gets worse , as for the wood chips you show me another renewable resource that employs as many as ours does , and if you dont agree with wood chipping dont use any paper simple

I've just done this recently.
Had five lined up at MCAS to try on and also had the help of their helmet expert, Wilson who is very knowledgable.
Lined up were : Arai Corsair RX7
Shoei XR-1000
Shark RSR-2
AGV GP Tech
Schuberth (BMW Branded here)
After a couple of hours at MCAS I came back to the Arai, noise aside (as Goldie said) it was the one that fit my head best.
It was a bonus that it was on sale as it was last years grafix. What I did get out of the whole fitting was that I had been wearing a size to big for two years.
If budget is not a concern then buy whatever fits your scone, cause there is not point in wearing a lid that you really
like cause it goes with your bike if it doesn't fit.
I was dying to buy this Shark lid, even had two sizes ordered in so I could decide on it but it didn't fit.....
I have the Shark RSR2 in black. Very nice helmet. In fact I like this colour combo Matty. Might have to go and check it out.

Yeah it looks wicked in real life. I really wish it fitted my head cause the colours looked killer on the Monster.

Weirdness is just a myth we promote to keep people away. It seems to be working. We don't want just anyone down here clogging up the good roads.
Now
back to helmets......

I tried on some more helmets today and the best fitting helmet is the Shark RS2R. I like the extra thick visor and no pods too.
The visor system is pretty cool too.
Now does anyone have some idea where I can find a web site with the colour options??
