Hi all, I like to have some feedback here and opinions too.

My duca 999 is stolen and I like a naked bike. The options are the 2008 1050 speed triple or a 2007 s2r 800.

The price is very similar in my country ($300 difference), all two are in perfect conditions (better that new), all two have less that 3k miles, the s2r have a full termi, the triumph have lots off triumph accesories.

I like a bike to 75% city use and 25% long trips (400 to 900 miles) in some weekends.

What is my best choice?

I realy preciate the opinions :)

you're looking at a huge difference in power there...
the S2R800 doesnt make anywhere NEAR the power that even a triumph STREET triple (675, not 1050) makes.
I love my  S2R800 to death, it's a great city bike because of it's forgiving brakes (some say brakes arent good enough), it's easy clutch pull, and really workable powerband.

that being said, i'd go hooligan on the triple too :)

What about handling, corners, etc.? The Ducas are avesone in this department, is the Triumph frame good enough?

I loved my 800 for the city, great handling, great looks...basically a fun ride...but a little underpowered, so much so I moved up to the 1100.

Ha, I'm thinking Street Triple R for myself. [thumbsup]

Much more bike for not much more money.  But I just think they are fugly.  I love the Triumph Scrambler though. So don't listen to me.

Yeah, I passed on the Triple because I thought it might have been too much for me as my first bike and got the S2R 800.  The Duc is a great first bike, but the Triple really is awesome (get the matte black [thumbsup])  Also check out the KTM Super Duke.

I dont like the looks of KTM bikes, but the performance is great...
And you can not get a 2sr,4r or something bigger ?
The 800 is a beginners/medium bike, the Speed Triple a full blown hooligan Tom Cruise style.

Looks like the concensus here is the S3. I wholeheartedly agree. I bought a Monster 800 for my first bike and think I made a good decision. About 2 years ago I bought a S3 and now the Duc hardly gets ridden. The S3 handles beautifully, is forgiving of rider input mistakes and has more power than I know what to do with. The engine is a colossus. I am biased of course but I think the S3 is one of the finest bikes available.

I've never owned an s3, but I did pick up a triumph sprint as a touring bike to give my m900 a rest from traveling duties. As much as I loved the triple motor, every time I went for a ride on the triumph I wished I was on the little monster. I tried to force myself to love the triumph and if I didn't already have the monster I probably would have (I certainly loved the triple motor). After 10,000 miles however, I decided to sell the triumph and stay true to my first love. The love affair with my little monster is stronger than ever now. [moto]
