I'm guessing you probably grabbed too much brake too quickly not allowing gradual weight to transfer from the rear to the front tire.  It's the opposite scenario as to why the rear brake becomes less effective when using the front brake and all the weight goes forward causing lack of weight and, in turn, friction at the rear tire.

So, always squeeze the brake.  Don't grab.  You just can't throw all the weight forward all of a sudden like that.

Suspension set up/tires are another thing that will determine quite a bit about what will happen in a panic stop.
My new 848 had a set up that was way too stiff and when practicing this I could skid the front end. NOT DESIRABLE
I went to the track and got a pro to set me up. Took 10 minutes, cost next to nothing.

Days later I was entering an intersection when a drunk woman in a 3.5 ton SUV ran the red light plowing through the intersection blasting cars out of the way. No where to go, I grabbed a handful of brake and stoppied at about a 50degree angle, 2 feet from the wave of metal & came to a rest untouched.
pheeeeew Roll Eyes

Boy I'm glad I got that set up done.

that is insane!!!  lucky for you you had that supsension set up.

also that code bike epople say, when you lock up on that bike you feel the front wheel shudder and you immediately have to let off, granted this was when the bike was completely stright no turn at all. basicallywhen it locks up you felt a shudder like you were going over some rumble strips, the sound was useless as i was wearing earplugs i couldn't hear any of the subtle sounds people are talking about.
