no one should be charged with additional offenses because of how cordial they are/ aren't to the issuing officer.
That's one way to look at it. The other way is that you can be charged with *everything* & being polite & respectful gets you off all the other possible tickets. The police have the right to ticket you with every possible infraction, that they don't when people play nice is actually them doing people a favor, not the other way around.

you mean ebcasue i was nice, i didnt get a no fairing ticket?
Its a game/system whatever you want to call it. All hands, Battle stations! When it comes to passing an officer. once you are 2-3 blocks away or the traffic is so heavy that he cant do jack squat and your exit is near, you can be normal again.
Its a bias thing to do in nyc, and my last thread got locked, so i want to make this clear before anyone starts PMing me shit.
ITS NYC POLICY TO BE BIAS AGAINST BIKES. Blame bloomberg. Is this political? Damn right it is. But it directly affects NYC riders.
Its hard to not mouth off to a cop. Some people here believe its better to be courteous and nice. I on the other hand just shut the make the beast with two backs up. Why? I chalk it up to racism. thats as far as ill go on that.
Whatever you do FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT. $500 now or $5000 over the course of the next several years? your pick.

Absolutely, which is why I go into my "pulled over mode"

I agree with most of your points, and I am one of those people you mentioned above. Why? Well it really comes down to 2 choices. Be nice to possibly get away with some violations and finish the pull over quick. Or stand your righteous ground come off as unpleasant possibly get more tickets and sit there longer. bett6er to choose battles based on what you will get out of it.

Yes. Or because the officer couldn't be bothered writing you up for it.
Fact is, you're more likely to get make the beast with two backsed over if you're a douche to the cop however righteously justified you feel. People should feel free to live in a dream world where the large majority of the population don't think bikes are a menace and police should treat everyone the same and fairly & cut you a break when you've had a bad day.
That's not reality so, as much as it's painful, suck it up, be polite & respectful to the police or you can expect to get slapped with everything they can think of. We're not the majority, we're not justified in a lot of our behavior and getting away with it for ages doesn't mean it's legal.

Then I showed him my receipt from when I passed my road test a few weeks ago.
I think I'm missing something here... what on earth does the receipt from passing your road test have to do with being charged with running a light or weaving between pedestrians, let alone reckless driving?
Everywhere I've lived, btw, they call that "receipt" a "temporary license." I wonder why they call it something else where you are.

Bothered writing me up for it (do realize that i said a ticket for NO FAIRING....)? Guy left me sitting in the cold rain and wrote me 2 tickets. Whats a 3rd one? or 4th one? Does he care that I was huddled next to my engine to stay warm? Probably not.
Fact is, your going to get a ticket anyway. might as well not inject the situation with attitude.

How did that conversation go? FIghting that one must have been easy...just direct the judge to the Ducati website.

no idea. he didnt write me up for it. but explained that all bikes need fairings, even if its a small fairing just to cover the front. Its the law, and we are required to have it. even when i explained this bike does not come with it, he said that i had to either find an aftermarket one or have one made. and hes seen other bikes like mine with it.
ANd hes doing me a favor by not writing me up for it. I wish he did. Would of been a fun court date. I still have to go to court for "no license plate"/obstructed plate. but i delayed it till November.

Yeah that sounds like he is confused.
In ny, if you have an open face helmet you have to either have dot approved eyewear or a windscreen which goes above the face. If you have a full face or open face with a screen then it is moot. The issue is eye protection not a fairing.
He is misunderstanding the law.

There has been a huge crackdown in NYC with increased police presence everywhere. They ticket for anything and everything and its about both being hard hard on motorcycles and generating revenue. I was on 34th st the other day, walking thankfully, and they were writing tickets to every car or bike that even put a wheel into the bus lane. Never seen that before in my life and I was born in NYC. As things stand, we are a minority as riders here in Manhattan or the area. If we are interested in doing something we would need to be a somewhat organized group and make ourselves and our needs and gripes as a tax paying constituency here in NYC known... but that takes time, effort, and organization. So instead we pay lawyers a ton to get us out of this kind of stuff.... the Po Po will continue to write tickets until motorcyclists come of the WANTED list posted by NYC government.
Time to move to SF... they happen to be a mite more friendly towards our kind there... ?
lol
PS get a good lawyer... form a relationship... you'll need them if you plan on continuing to ride in NYC.
