I was looking at the new Streetfighters and it occured to me that if I can ditch most of the fairings, I'd be just as happy with an older (03 or so) 749 and save almost 10K. The problem is I hate faired bikes, and though I can live with the fairing assembly around the headlights, I know I'd want to ditch everything else. I can't find pics of tehbike without the fairings though which leads to this thread.
Has anyone one anything similar? Any issues? Is there any place where the battery (which I assume is under the fairing somewhere) can be hidden? Any pics of the bike sans plastic?

or..... just buy my 1098 and take the plastic off I saw teh cafe 9 while poking around the Duc Cutters' site. Nice bike, but I actually prefer the stock Duc nose fairing and tank... Also, the hefty price tag would be a deal breaker. |

Thanks. The last two are exactly what I'm thinking about.. I was worried about the battery -- maybe a cutting the bottom fairing down into a chin fairing would hide the battery in a more stylish way... I'm prob going to go with heli bars rather than going through the trouble of swapping triple tree tops to mount handlebars though...
Now I'm def on the lookout for a good used 749/748...

i know someone that is selling a 749 with under 5k for $4,000......the fairings are gone but, the rest of the bike is perfect. i am in north east ohio btw.

see now I see! Do you agree that there's absolutely no place to hide the battery? Would a smaller battery work somewhere in the subframe under the seat, maybe where the passenger pillion goes (of course with some minor 'surgery')? this is a 916 after prom night built by a member that looks like a Monster with the new "sport" tanks from CA Cycleworks... |

Buy a smaller battery...like a Speedcell or Odyssey. Then put it in the airbox, or in a custom box fitted under the tail...or something like that. You can find a place.
Click the link in my sig. Not exactly the same, but I turned my Multi into a streetfighter. I had the same issue with the battery/ecu relocation.
