dude, is that adaptor worth the $50?

does it power on/off the unit, or do you have to use the regular controller to do that?

Yup! Works great with my Harmony One, powers on and off, controls all functions. You have to remove the PS3 from the remote, then add it back so it can update the remote with the new driver for the adapter. It connects to your PS3 through BT so the only wire is the power cord...

The only thing that annoys me with the Stand alone Bluray players is Ethernet connection for Bluray live and Updates, I live in a rental, so I can't put an ethernet port in the wall and I don't want cables running across the floor to my Router.
At least with the PS3 the unit has wireless, so I hook it to my network with an Apple Airport, play games, get updates and access BD live that way, if someone releases a Bluray player with Wireless access, I'm there.
Somebody will one day.

Having said that, Sony has just released a new Bluray player with a Wireless Lan built in, the S560 & S760 have just been released.

The PS3 is the best option. its the best Blue-ray player on the market and also, if you sign up with Netflix  you get to watch any movie when ever you want thru the PS3. Kinda like on demand but only $20 a month.
I live vicariously thru myself......

Grampa

I go out in the garage when I wanna watch something cool.

Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

So I went solo.  -Me

check out the Oppo BDP-83 http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-83/

it is pricey, $500 - likely more than you wanna spend, but it's the shiznit.

plays BluRay, DVD, SACD, CD

I have one, it rocks.  Loads fast, great features.

I bought the Denon. I couldn't pass up the deal for $380 delivered. I also scored a Panamax M5300-EX line conditioner/surge supressor/noise filter for $250.

Got them both from Amazon.

Panamax showed up today, Denon should be here in under a week.

ML is happy :D
