Miami has the athletes, but they need more experience in order to avoid mistakes.

Sad, sad game  ??? :'(
The season is NOT over.
Hopes for a BCS Bowl (like the Rose Bowl) or a Pac-10 championship ARE over.
We still have a chance for a decent season, it just won't be great like so many fans wanted/expected.

I will guarantee that Cal will NOT lose next week.  I'll bet anyone!
Big talk?  Yeh.  But I can back it up.  We have a bye week.

I'm still a fan.  go bears!
Ciao!

So, who do we like next week, Florida or LSU? Auburn and Alabama also 5-0. The only good thing about the SEC is that they have to play each other. I can live with an SEC team being #1, but the football gods cannot allow Texas to get there.

Are people going crazy in Columbus, OH because the AP poll has Cincinnati ranked ahead of OSU?

Of course, Boise St. is ranked ahead of USC, and I think the PAC-10 is the 2nd strongest conference after the SEC.

Now, someone explain to me how VaTech ranks ahead of the Trojans after being extended by Duke? The ACC is just not that strong a league; it's sort of on-par with the Big-12.

Nobody really cares here about Cinnci being ahead of us.  In fact most people want Cinnci to win.  They're a great offensive team but play in an easy league.  We do have problems with Cinnci fans and players trying to say that they are the best program in the state which is a joke.  I would love to see the Buckeyes play Cinnci next week and see what happens.  No doubt in my mind the Buckeyes would cream the Bearcats.

Right now it doesn't matter who's ahead of the Buckeyes. No way do I want to go to the NC so winning the Big Ten puts us in the Rose Bowl no matter what we are ranked.

Yeah, the SEC is good, I hear all about it every day  [roll]. But they're not nearly as good as they give themselves credit for. The bottom of the Big 12 is weak, but I'll stack the top of the league against anyone. Texas hasn't looked as good as last yr, but my Horns are coming around. We'll see where we are when we play OU. Bradford will almost certainly be back for that. And speaking of OU, they've lost 2 1 pt games, both of which were largely a result of the absence of their Heisman-winning qb. How many of you think UF would be a championship contender without Tebow? Comparing the Big 12 to the ACC is ludicrous.
Yeah, they play good defense in the SEC. They also play atrocious offense. Arkansas can score 40+ on UGA, and LSU can barely manage 20, with A LOT of help from the refs? And I'm supposed to believe that LSU belongs in the top 5? Heck, UGA would be no better than the 4th best time in the Big 12 South, let alone the conference, as proven by the game against Ok St. The only balanced teams in the SEC are Bama and Florida. Rankings outside the top 3 this yr are pretty much by default, kind of like 2007.

And Jason, +1 Go Big Red. Nebraska still has the classiest fans in college football. It's hard to muster any hatred when ya'll come to Austin   ;D

For the record, I root for/follow teams from the Big East, Pac Ten, and Acc (and the ACC is in there b/c my team left the Big East).

Now, I love it when people talk about the SEC teams not being very good (yes, I am talking about all you Big Ten and Twelve fans).  When the best teams from those conferences have the opportunity to prove themselves on the biggest stage (The National Championship), they prove that they are just average at best, and at worst, slow and confused, all while getting out coached.
To back this up, I submit this: since 2004, The SEC has had 2 teams (Florida and LSU) win the NC 4 times. THe BIg 12 has 1 champ (Texas) and the Pac 10 has 1 champ (USC).  We can put this another way: Going back to 1999 The Big 10 is 1-2 in the NC game; The Big 12 is 2-4; The ACC is 2-4; THe Pac 10 is 1-1; and the SEC is 5-0.

edit: The point being, The SEC has the best teams in college football right now...it is OK to admit it.

I will now donn my fire proof suit and await the barrage...

+1 on the SEC.

Big 12, as I said in an earlier post, suffers from most of the teams playing the spread offense. They do not match up well against teams that have athletes and can run the ball.

As much as I hate to admit it, the SEC is the deepest league with the most talent.

Swampduc, I think you're wrong about the Big 12.  Just like the Big Ten, the top 3 teams are really good but the rest of the conference is mediocre to suck.  If you can't play D you don't win games against the SEC (not that I would know being a Buckeyes fan).  This is true for the PAC 10 and Big East too.

A really good Thursday night game tonight.  Heres to hoping it starts off a crazy weekend. Florida beats LSU but if Meyers puts in Teabow he is a bad coach.  That kid needs at least another week off.  MMA fighters get an automatic 90 day suspension for concussions. They can win off they're defense because LSU has no offense to speak of.

Oh yeah, and people putting the Buckeyes on upset alert agianst the Badgers are smokin rocks.

I didn't say that the Big 12 was as good top to bottom; I said that the top of the league compared well with anyone. I hear ya'll about the SEC's record in BCS championship games, with BCS being the operative term (USC in 2003 would be an example of a team that may have gotten jobbed, much as I hate them and hate to admit it). I also feel that Florida was fortunate to play the 2nd best team in the Big 12 for the NC last year. I think Texas was clearly better than Choklahoma last year. Just my opinion, and I made it clear from the start that I'm a Horns homer  ;D

And MM, I agree that Tebow probably shouldn't be playing against LSU, but I think he will. And I wouldn't be so sanguine about UF's chances of winning in Tiger Stadium without Tebow. That's a tough, tough place to play. It's loud in there to the point of being just about disorienting. Over 90k drunk-ass Cajuns is a scary thing  ;D

I guess I did take you wrong. My point was more that the Big 12 gets a lot of love by the media where really they are about the same as the PAC and Big Ten.

I actually like Texas but remember it took a last minute TD drive (which I'm not saying wasn't easy for Colt) for the Horns to beat the Buckeyes last year. They were better than OK and maybe they weren't so up for the Feist but I think Florida would have beat them just as easily.  In all reality USC keeps killing themselves with losses to mid level PAC ten teams.  They were the only team that could have beat Florida last year.

I think he will play too and end up getting a lot more hurt.  You also have to take into consideration that I want Mccoy to win the heisman so Archie remains the only 2-time winner.

IMO- the strength of a conference is based on the number of high-level athletes on all the teams, top to bottom. I think the SEC is #1 in this regard. I think the Pac-10 is 2nd. The other conferences have a team (Boise) or a few teams (Texas, TCU, OK) with those kinds of athletes, but not from top to bottom.

Of course, a conference could be very competitive among its own members, but not have a team or teams with superior athletes to match up with the top teams from other leagues. In other words, the Ivy League is very competitive, but its best wouldn't have a prayer against the best in the ACC.

This all is a result of recruiting. Then there's coaching itself: Some coaches do a better job with a group of athletes than others. I like Pete Carroll; obviously, Urban Meyer does a great job.

As an opinionated type, I can't stand Bobby Petrino and Rich Rodriguez. To me, they exemplify everything that's bad about big-time college sports.

Just sayin'....
