Would high compression pistons be worthwhile?  I'd love an S4R but hate selling my paid off bike.  Looking to boost power to something comparable to the S2R 1000.  comments/ideas welcome.
Thanks

I say, bang for the buck would be to put a 1000/1100ds motor in your chassis.

If you can find the motor used for the right price it will prob. be cheaper on labor to replace the engine then it would be to tear the
cylinders off it and install pistons.  I would love to see an 800 modifed to make power closer to the 1000, I've heard its doable with cams, compression, and head work.  If you do take on the engine work be sure to post your results.

Get the S4R.  You know it is what you want.  If you are patient there are great deals to be had on them.  I got mine for $6500 with some mods. (PC3, full Sil, DP clutch cover and pressure plate, Quick change rear sprocket carrier.)

By the time you sell the s2r the extra cash you chip in to buy an s4r would not be too much more than what you will spend trying to squeeze more power out of the s2r.

If you arent satisfied with the S2R800, youre not oging to be that much more satisfied with a DS1000 either. Maybe a DS1100, but even then, i doubt it would make a huge difference. Now if you had an S4R or S4RT then youd see the difference, but at that point, honestly, unless you like the brutal amount of power on a naked, your better of getting an SBK depending on how you ride.

I wish i had S4Rs power in my Monster and still loked like a 2v. Its a lot more power, and its a lot more smooth. 2V are very snappy. Its either on or off where 4v is very smooth from the beginning.  Dont forget about the heat. the 4vs blow 180+ degree air over your leg. In the end it all depends on what you want out of the bike.

I love my 800 but I do want more punch.  Frankly I'm too much of an idiot to have 130 hp........I know there are plenty of Leo's that would love to see me with one.  Grin

The problem is I rode a 1098 and spanked it a bit.........HOLY SHIT!  I saw the Streetfighter and loved it but I'm NOT spending $3K on exhaust and goodies to make it what I want.  To hell with that idea so I'm looking for cheapest alternative.  I know, it's nearly impossible.

Here is as good as it gets, same engine as us:

http://www.ducpond.com/cs_800r.html

I talked Donnie about this build.  He has built two of these that put down 90hp with 112 octane race fuel.  Running pump gas with pistons, porting, balanced and blueprinted, dual spark setup by nichols maybe 80hp is possible out of an 800, you would likely have to freshen up after every riding season.  It would sound awesome but be very high strung.  For comparison sake my bike with PCIII, full exhaust, open airbox is 65hp on the dyno, s2r1000 is somewhere around 75hp completely stock seen here http://www.indyducati.com/articles/view.asp?id=194 .  I have debated doing the same as you, pistons, head work etc.  At the end of the day it would be cheaper to sell the 800 and buy a S4R or something like that.

how attached are you to your current bike?  if you can part ways, sell it and buy a 1K.  test ride a 1k, make sure it's worth the upgrade.

never cared for it really.  I just love the lines on the Monsters too much to part ways.  Had a Ninja & FZ1 a while back and the only thing that compels me to ride is that damn Monster.
