Exhaust is too loud

Perhaps some of the tech genius in here can help me in my quandry  [bow_down]

I am scheduled for 2 days in November at Laguna Seca. As most people know they have strict sound restrictions. Trouble is (as you might have guessed by the subject line) I anticipate my bike being too loud.

From what I understand they will kick your ass off if you break the 92DB requirement.

I have an 06 GSXR1000 with a full M4 system. I do not have the stock setup anymore. Is there any way I can retrofit the M4 system with a baffle (or something) to get the noise down? Do they even make those? Am I better off trying to commandeer an OEM setup (and will that mess up my PC/Ignition/QS)?

Any thoughts, advice or remedies are appreciated.

Thx

A stock system will mess with the fueling and will more than likely make the thing less than fun to ride.

A db killer will reduce sound levels and leave the bike rideable, but with somewhat less power.

You may have to fab something up. I can post a pic of a 'typical' db killer from a Duc if it helps.

I am investigating a MIVV DB killer...should be in the range of $25...hopefully I can find one to fit.

If not, I'll take you up on the offer to see one...

thanks!

Just figure out where the sound trap is & pull the clutch each lap as you pass it & idle thru [cheeky]

I believe its on the straight away lol.  Also I thought they make sure you have a stock system on.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

can't offer specific advice, but be aware if you have modified the intake/airbox that can make the bike MUCH louder too so muffing the exhaust might not be enough to pass the db test...this is a common problem for cars on track days, intake AND exhaust need work to meet the track noise spec

Really?  How is it measured?  Hopefully, riding past at some point on the track. FWIW, the DOT requirement for noise level is 98db @ 1 meter.  98db being 6 db louder than 92db means it's twice as loud.  I can probably fart louder than 92 db @ 1 meter.  [thumbsup]

When I was last investigating a track day there, I found out that they had changed the rules to only allow stock exhausts!! You had better call them and be sure of what the current rules are....

Pressure level doubles every 3 db. 6 db difference means its 4 times as loud. Stupid logarithmic scale.  >:(

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

From the horses mouth: the stock pipe 'rule' is set (and enforced) only by the group who is renting the track. To their knowledge, Keigewin's is the only organization that publishes this 'rule.' Otherwise, the staff @ Mazda Raceway only enforce the 92db restriction.

Blam. I'm good to go.

BTW - that db killer really shut my bike up. Amazing.

What's the point of the noise restriction?

they obviously don't make the GP bikes adhere to this policy.
