So my boss had me order a new computer for the office today and I think that blood came out of my nose when I saw the specs on the final order. Check out these specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte Extreme
Power Supply 850W
Processor: Intel Quad Core 3.06GHz, 8M Cache
Video: 2 NVidia 9600GT 1GB Silent Graphics Cards
RAM: 12GB DDR3
Hard Drive: 1TB Serial ATA 32MB Cache
25 in 1 Card Reader
Super Blu-ray Disk Burner (Reads and Writes any media)
8-Channel HD Audio
4yr warrenty
OS: Vista Business 64bit w/free 7 upgrade.

I had no idea that you could put 12GB of ram on a system! This thing is going to be amazing! WOW! At just under $3000 though, it had better be!! I have to admit though, any thoughts of work went completly out the window and dreams of lan parties and mass destruction gaming were more vivid than ever!!

what do you do for work that "requires" two 9600GTs?

for the price, i'm surprised those aren't quad-core xeons (server/workstation procs).

I know, this new system "may" have to pull double duty at some point....especially with an internet download speed of 69Mb/s!!

Game On!!!  Evil

We actually purchased two of this particular system. One will be used with an employee who does 90% autocad work. The other system doesn't really "require" two graphics cards, but the money was allocated for the purchase, so my boss, who's a tech-aholic like me figured "when in Rome"....so that was it!

12GB of RAM is great until Windows figures out you have it and somehow allocates 11.5GB to 75 instances of xxxxxxxxx.dll like my work laptop did this morning  laughingdp

Actually, it is a quad core i7 950...and it runs 8 threads so to the OS it looks as though it is running 8 individual cores.

As a side note, I am typing this on a computer with a core i7 975(oced to 4.2ghz with HT), 24GB of RAM, 2x xFx GTX295s, 2x120GB OCZ Vertex SSDs in RAID 0(OS and apps), a pair of 300GB Velociraptors in RAID 0(storage backed up to a 1.5TB external) displaying on a 30inch Dell LCD. And I just browse the intrawebz!!!  Grin
I actually only have $3200 in this machine so far...
