Ass!  Wink  One of the reasons that I am liking the larger fuel tank is because I will most likely be leaving Hawaii by, if not before, this coming May.  Looking at either making my way to DC or back to Germany.

Well if its europe, id take a look at some of the Euro model bikes that aren't avaliable in the US.

There will be an extra bed just sitting there waiting to get slept in.  Not so sure about the bike though.  Wink

By the way, found two great deals today that I am having a hard time with.  An '07 SMR that I could get shipped down here for just under $9K and an '08 SD (with full Akro system) that I could get for just under $11K.

What sort of range do you get on yours before you have to stop for fuel?  Also, what are the service intervals on the LC8?

I can get to 100 or 110 miles before the gas light comes on.  I think I'd be dead empty by 130 or 135.

Normally Im ready for a quick stop after 100 miles.

When I rode to DIMBY (650 miles one way) Out of 13.5 hours of travel I was only stopped for 2.  Most of that was lunch, and when I stopped to change my socks (and put plastic bags on my feet) because rain had absolutely soaked my boots.

When Im in tour mode I also carry a 1.25 gallon gas can strapped to the top of one of my side bags just in case I find myself unable to reach the next gas stop.

I've only needed it once, and that was more due to my poor planning.  Also, i pushed the miles because I knew I had the can with me.  The bike wasn't out of fuel but the gas station my gps took me too was a mom/pop place not open at 11pm on a Sunday.

The first service is fairly important on the LC8 and that can/should happen in the first 1500 miles (including a valve check)

I did everything but the valves so far.  Im way over due for valves (im at 6500 I think) 

The KTM tech here (there's 1, it's a small shop) asked how easily the bike started and how it ran.

I told him same as when it had 500 miles on it (when I got it) - great!  I'll do the valves over the winter/spring.

Much easier than Duc valves I think.  He let me make a copy of the service manual Cheesy

Other than that. . . guys seem to just ride the shit out of these things.

Also, i seem to get 40mpg touring the slab at 75-85mph.

Back roads with lots of WOT is more like 32-35

No I haven't.  I sat on an SD a while back, and the ergos seemed fine but that shop would not allow test rides.  I did take an SM out for a spin, but as said earlier, I think the carbs were a bit gummed up from sitting around for a couple of years.

As sad as this is going to sound, one of the main things that has me leaning more towards the SD is the dash.  I really find that dash on the SM/R unappealing for some reason...  If it wasn't for that one feature, I would most likely be all over that bike...

I really think you need to get a ride on each of them.

I know you rode the SMR, but that doesn't count if the carbs are gummed.

It's a better bike when it's working well.

Don't get me wrong, SD's are really fun, but my bias went to the Supermoto.  I hit up the dealer when the KTM semi was there and rode each of them.  I couldn't wait to get off the SD.

And I can ride anything.

But I couldn't tolerate the Duke as it was.

They had to pry me off the Supermoto (regular SM, not the R even)
