But if he was not involved with what was going on perhaps standing on the sidelines watching it happen is not the best of ideas.
Surly he does not deserve to die for that but its not as if it could not have been prevented.

I've never been in a gang, have know very few gang members, dont really know the do's and do-not of gang activity. However- If I see a crowd of hudlems hanging around the street, the last thing I'd do is stand there and watch. You can bet your sweet ass that I would get the f out of there in a hurry.

Yeaaaahhhh.... speaking from personal experience, common sense is not always the strong suit among the demographic that will stand around to observe street crime.

And by "demographic," I mean bored teenagers.  No one read anything racist into that, ‘cuz stupid white kids stand around watching street crime, too.

And by "personal experience," I mean I was outside on the lawn at my high school playing hacky-sack with my stoner buddies when a drive-by shooting occurred on the corner of the school campus - and half of my graduating class ran towards the gunfire to see what was happening.

The announcements over the PA during second period the next day were classic… the senior dean came on and said, “…and remember, kids, in the event of gunfire, please head away from the sound of the shots, not towards them.”  You could almost hear Darwin’s ghost laughing…
