Heard last night that they're going to close down a few blocks of Market to test it out as ped/bike only... Which is fine with me.  No one in their right mind drives Market on purpose and there's never been any parking there anyways.

They already did.  Started yesterday.  At 6th and east of there.  You can still travel north/south and Muni and cabs (I think) will still travel.

They've been trying to get that as a pilot for years. There are often more bikes than cars on Market, and I think it kind of makes sense...especially if it speeds the MUNI surface vehicles up a bit. For that matter, I'd LOVE to see further segmentation of east-west streets for different purposes:
Market Street for bicycles, streetcars, and busses
Mission St for motorcycles
Howard St for cars

It went up just recently -- July 1, 2009.  You can buy a parking card so you don't have to carry change.

coincidentally, spidey's salary also went up july 1, 2009.  Roll Eyes

If by "up" you mean "down", then you're right.   Cry

That is fooking cool  waytogo
Except riding a bike with Muni buses over rail tracks and steel BART grids is like swimming in a shark tank.
I suppose they got to start somewheres.
