Hi My S4r has an arrow steering damper and I want to lower the handle bars. I don't know much about clip ons but from what I do know they are what I need. How do I keep the damper and add clip ons. Also what kind do i need speedy apex or what. Do I need risers adapters or something.

Somebody educate me on clip ons and what it entails. Costs would be nice too.

The steering damper can stay where it is - it's mounted on the bar clamp right? Maybe you'll need a few spacers/washers to fill in the tiny gap which the stock bars was.

I can't educate you with every little detail, but I can give you one or two essentials.

Clip ons provide new angles for your wrists - added sweep angle and down angle. Hold your hands in front of you and see how the new angles change your elbows and shoulders. Then you'll know how much change you want. The more you get, the more your body position will be like a superbike position. Riser height of the clip ons plays an important role in this too.

The SpeedyMoto Tall Boys will put the grips at about stock height. That's not very low and doesn't require a radical sweep back (which they BTW don't allow).

The Swatt 3.5" riser clip ons will put the grips about two inches lower than stock. Another inch for the 2.5" riser model. MotoWheels have the 2.5" in stock. The 3.5" is hard to find, from what I've heard.

Clip ons with little or no rise are very different from stock and you would have to be reasonably sure about such a change before making it. I'm happy with my Swatt 3.5" and I'm thinking of lowering them, but it did take some getting used to.

search around for examples of different clip ons and how they change the stance.

another option Ive seen people toss around are adjustable clubman bars which mount like regular bars but give you a more aggressive position.  Ive yet to see them mounted yet though.

Personally I use the tomaselli adjustable clip ons. they are exactly what I wanted (aggressive) but require some futzing around to make them fit. (lowering the headlight, pivoting brake/clutch cables) but the bars are moderatly priced and suuppper adjustable. I had to move them around 5 or 6 times before I got them where I like them.

I posted my thoughts on the Apex's here:
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=5515.0

They're handy because they come in two pieces, don't have to take the top triple off to install them.  The stock turnsignals will get in the way with these, I believe... available at monsterparts.com.  I love them.  Took the bike with the new bars to Barber last weekend and the bike handled amazingly.  Almost as nimble as my Daytona 675, but with ridiculous corner exits!

Ha, just noticed you asked for my final verdict on that other thread and I never saw it...

but yeah.  I think the Apex's rock.  Can't speak for the other brands because I've never tried them.  For $99 bucks tho, heckuva deal.  Woodcrafts are the same price but don't have the adjustability the Apex's do.

Hiya,

Noob here deciding on a pair of clip-ons now, and attracted to Apex.  Two questions:

(1) can the Apex be adjusted upwards i.e. th ends as high as possible and if so how is that compared to stock handle bars?

(2) Can a top steering damper be mounted to clip-ons, if it is not mounted to the handlebar clamp?

Cheers
