Here's a eBay Cousin to the Craig's List Crack Addict...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998-RED-BMW-K1200RS-/130848261375?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item1e772a04ff#v4-36
I didn't read past this little gem before I knew I had to share it here...
"Bad news: Engine's done. Not sure exactly 'what'...will be your problem - sorry. 'Why' is because I failed to add oil. My bad, but most certainly NOT an indicator of how this bike was treated throughout her life."
Translation? I blew up the engine due to neglect, but I took great care of the important things like replacing turn signal fluids and lubricating the side stand bearings.

True, but that's a helluva bike for 2k or less. (Lots of spare motors around.)
Pre-final drive problems and pre-Canbuss, too.
I'd be really tempted.

bmw's acceptable limit for oil use is 1 litre per 1,000km. if they use less than that, there's no grounds for a warranty claim. they had to put stickers on the tanks telling people to check oil level, esp the r1100/1150 as quite a lot of them got blown up by 5,000km as they'd used the oil.
so it doesn't neccesarily mean shoddy maintenance, it might just mean someone used to ujm blew up a bmw. good ol' bavarian money waster.

WTF?
1liter per 1000 km?
That's a two-stroke!
They saving money by not fitting oil rings?

My BMW R1100S did not use any oil between changes. Go figger. Butt a K1200RS that I had threw the #1 con rod out the side of the motor one night on the highway outside of Tucson. Ya just never know, ya know?

At $1900 could be good project bike. Already has clip-ons, aftermarket exhaust and levers.

"Lost keys" and way below market value make me think yes to your question.

The price looks about right (maybe even a little high) for a non-running salvage title on this side of the country...

I don't think anybody is going to the trouble of stealing an '00 M750. He would be an idiot to post the bike on CL as well, asking to get pinched.
It is most likely legit, no ecu to worry about, just get a new key matched to the ignition/locks.

a guy i used to work with found his guzzi lm3 stolen one morning. started ringing round, letting everyone in the country know, etc. the usual thing.
it was found a week or so later about 1/2 km away, leaning against a tree. probably someone who figured riding was better than walking, then decided pretty quick they'd rather walk after all.
