Been lurking here off and on for a while now...never really posted on the main board...just on MADDOG. I was wondering what you guys think about the new 8V Moto Guzzi Griso. I was thinking about getting one...but make no mistake, I'm keeping my 2001 M900. I was thinking it would be a good/cool second bike to have when I wanted to ride something different. Any thoughts or experience with the brand?

Link to pics and more info on the bike?

I stepped foot in a Guzzi shop a couple of years ago. I like the history behind the engine and how it looks on a few of the models, but DAMN are they heavy.....not a single bike was under 500lbs dry!

Griso is cool. Looks cool, sounds cool, comfy, nice cruising bike.

Heavy, limited dealer support.

Do you really want another air-cooled, V-Twin, Italian bike as a second bike.

What kind of riding do you do?

If you ride long distance, think about adding a sport tourer instead of the Griso.

If it lights your fire, then buy the Griso and enjoy and be happy and stop worrying about what I think.

I just traded my '05 1200GS for an '07 Griso 1100 today. Rode it for about 110 miles. So far I really like it. Kind of like a Monster, but not as sporty as far as handling or engine response...but still a blast. Heavy, but never really feels heavy because the weight is carried very low. The GS felt WAY WAY heavier. Looks beautiful IMO...sounds amazing with the Agostini megaphone exhaust mine came with. Just a cool bike that is fun to ride.

Note, the 1100 is the 4 valve version. The 1200 is supposed to be a good engine, but it did have a couple recalls. Poke around the Guzzi Tech forum. Dealer support can be bad...I'm not worried about it though because we have one of the best Guzzi dealers in the country here (Moto International)...they're also fairly simple engines as far as I ca tell so I intend on learning to work on it.

I've been lusting after these for years. I sat on one here in Raleigh, but that dealer (or any dealer around here AFAIK) doesn't offer test rides (at least not to me).

Thanks! That sucks about your dealer...ours will let you demo anything they have.

From what I understand taking the frame off of this bike is really easy...so yeah, they took it off to have it powdercoated. Looks way better than silver IMO. waytogo

I plan on getting new tires, a windscreen for the winter, and a Ventura bag system. No mods other than that.

Of course, I said that about the Multi when I got it too! laughingdp

One of my favourite bikes the Griso..... waytogo

Would love to own one some day. With the black frame it looks like a Griso 850 - which I like the look of best coz of that black frame, but also since the 850 is happy to run on hot oil you get to look at more of that lovely engine without the oil cooler spoiling the view.

I don't know about the engine view on the 850 Griso. That Guzzi engine provides too much visual mass. It looks too much like a car engine with that deep oil pan hanging off the bottom of the engine. I like it to be broken up. It helps if the engine is black like on this one:

I also like the look of the engine in the 1200 8V Sport. With the header pipe on both sides of the engine and a chin spoiler the visual mass of the Guzzi engine is hidden really well.
