Is that because you think hes a Douche bag or is it because the fight was pretty much against all odds. I dont think he deserves the title. hes too new to even have deserved a title shot. We all knew Couture got there because of his skill and Lesnar is still refining his.
Im with the rest you guys, i dont give him credit for this.
Aside from that, Randy Couture held his own. He held it VERY nicely. After the fight Lesnar said he was just feeling out Couture. And in all honesty, i think Lesnar had absolutely no way to defend against a smart fighter like couture. it was all about power for lesnar. Make the distance, land the punches, drop him and go for it. thats how hes been in all his fight. Includng the fight with Mir. The only difference was Mir was much larger and didnt have to fight the weight of lesnar.
if there is a rematch soon with Lesnar and Mir, I expect the same thing from lesnar. Ground and pound, and no defense against smart fighters.

I think you guys are absolutely wrong about this one. Lesnar dominated Couture for pretty much the whole fight. Sure Randy got away from him a couple of times but that is Randy's strength. Lesnar's positioning and movements on the ground and in the clinch were much better and his stand up was exponentially better. He took a few of Randy's best shots and they didn't even seem to phase him as he kept pressing. How can you say he had no way to defend against a smart fighter as Couture. Most of the shots Randy took were counters and he imposed his will on the take downs anytime he wanted. Once again Randy got a title fight way early in his career and now everyone loves him. Lesnar's only challenge now is beating Big Nog because he is going to destroy Mir. Sure Nog will probably win a fight against Lesnar but he does keep getting much better and like Randy said he does it all by himself since he doesn't train at a normal gym. This guy is the future of this division and will probably be unstopable in the next couple of years. It's fine that you are giving him credit because he still has the belt and just beat one of the best heavyweights of all time easily.
The ppv was very surprising though. Lots of great fights and mostly finishes. That upper cut was brutal.

They only thing the Couture/Lesnar match showed to me is the need for a better break down on the weight classes the the 60 lbs range between light heavy and the heavy weight is just to large... Randy (a light heavy fighter IMO) stood no chance against a guy the size of lesnar (a big heavy weight), I just hope Couture drops down to the light heavy weight class again because he is a hugely talented fighter that has a lot left to show I hope does not hang up gloves just yet.
I do hope they put a good big heavy weight against Lesnar next someone has the size to hand his ass to him on a plate. If they put someone with some like Nogueira he won't have the same outcome i was not impressed with Lesnars perfomance from a technical standpoint, he is just a big Mother F*#%er who needs to get his ass kicked...

I agree with this assessment.
oregunduc - Randy would have trouble in today's LHW Division; besides, his golden pupil (Forrest) is the current champ.

And Foreman had Ali back in the day. Ali still won.
Lesnar has been in 4 fights. only one of which had some endurance in it which was the herring fight. Look at the way he fights. He dishes it out, and the guys out of gas by round 3. Mir had no chance against the god given body of Lesnar, but he was smarter fighter. Lesnar made a fatal mistake of believing his brute strength could win him the fight. and BAM. lost his leg.
Quote
Lesnar's positioning and movements on the ground and in the clinch were much better and his stand up was exponentially better.
The dude was ontop of him the whole time. Skill? no. Size? yes. his clinch was much better? no. He couldnt get into a favorable spot. He was just hammer fisting whatever piece of Coutures body he could find.
How can you give Lesnar much credit for defeating Couture? Should I give an adult credit for beating up kid? That's the whole problem. Everyone knew Lesnar was going to beat couture. It was very hard to see it any other way. You cant block a fist that big without hurting yourself. The smallest mistake on your end would put you down. Lesnars standing fight is much better, but again, no one can go pound for pound and stand up to someone that beastly.
Yes, randy got his belt early as well. But he worked at it. Same way Lesnar has to. The difference here is, Randy Couture earned every bit of his belt from knocking down skilled opponents that were on his level or higher. Lesnar getting his belt from someone like Couture doesnt make it that much of a big deal. If fighters like Jackson or Liddell held lightweight belts, would you give them credit for it?
Eitherway, Lesnar has a long road to walk. Ill give him credit for training hard and working hard and theres no doubt hes working hard for this. But as for the belt, it only means one thing to me. Its back in the weight class it belongs in. Randy shouldnt have had it, but he did, which is why everyone likes him.
Maybe Mike Tyson back in the day could beat lesnar or roy jones jr. But i dont see many MMA guys his size. correction, i dont see any.

If I have to watch one more cliche Brock Lesnar fight I'm gonna puke. His fights are incredibly lame and predictable. Observe my breakdown of a Lesnar fight:
Phase 1: Show up to fight.
Phase 2: ? ? ? ?
Phase 3: Profit.
OK, but seriously; a Lesnar fight really consists of two things. First he lands a random hard punch that drops his opponent. Second, and most annoying, he starts his trademark rapid hammerfisting. And then the fight is over. I'm not saying his hammerfisting wouldn't beat the living shit out of my pretty face, but come on. It looks like a desperate attempt to end the fight. "Look ref, look how many times I am hitting him in succession. Maybe you should call the fight before someone starts to bleed!" It's quite pathetic looking. Give me something to look at. Instead of going right to side control and hammerfist, show me a full mount and beat on someone, in slow-mo.
I'm not doubting his power, I just think the skill is lacking and his fights are boring, even when he loses. And I want to see him mix it up a little before I start giving him any credit. Can we ban the hammerfist for his next fight?

HeMan..I was going to mention something similar to your "beating a kid" remark. I was reminded of the
Seinfeld
episode of Kramer beating the kid's asses in karate.
Metal..I agree that Lesnar was moving Couture around like a sack of dung and taking him down when he wanted but to say that he didn't seem phased after those punches to the face?! I think I saw a few tears from Lesnar after he got bloodied up.
As for Mir, he beat Lesnar the first time. When the second fight comes, he'll have the experience from the first fight and know exactly what to expect next time. Mir will beat him again.
Lesnar has his size/weight and the weight behind his punches. Other than that..the wrestling experience. Didn't his size/weight come into play there as well?
Yes Hank..WTH is up with those sorry-azz hammer fists?!

lesnar definitly did not deserve a title fight. he is far too new, he hasnt done anything to prove he has any skill in my eyes. yes he won, but look at the guy. if he lands one hit, its downhill from there. he was simply too large of a guy for couture to handle, even with all of coutures skill. the results of this fight should never make anyone doubt randy's absolute dominace of the heavyweight class.

I think it is funny that you guys keep bringing up the hammer fists and that Randy wasn't phased. He was clearly knocked out and couldn't even stand the fist few times he tried to get up. Oh, and Randy never complained for a second that he wasn't out. Doesn't that account for something?

Where is the quote saying that Randy wasn't phased?
The punch that got him in the back of the head was the shot that got him.

Whoops read your post incorrectly. I'm sure Lesnar was a little hurt by the Randy's punches but they didn't seem to bother him to much. The cut did seem to bother him though. If he cuts that easily that will become a problem.

Uh, dude, Randy stuffed most of Brock's TD attempts.

True. Not taking ANYTHING away from Randy. Of course, I was routing for him the whole time! I was saying that there were a few times when Randy had Lesanr up against the ropes and Lesnar moved him away easily.
